Congratulations to 9-1-1: Lone Star Cast Member Ronen Rubinstein and his wife Jessica Parker Kennedy. Rubinstein, who plays paramedic TK Strand on the 9-1-1 spinoff, announced in an Instagram post in November 2024 that he and his wife had welcomed their first child, a son named Boydd Parker-Rubinstein, who was born on September 29, 2024. In his Instagram post, Rubinstein shared a series of photos of his newborn, including several shots of him and Kennedy—a fellow actor who has starred in primetime shows like The Flash, Black Sails, and 90210—holding their baby in the hospital. Rubinstein and Kennedy married in August 2022 after five years of dating.

Rubinstein’s personal news comes at a bittersweet time for the cast of 9-1-1: Lone Star, which will end with its fifth and final season in January 2025. FOX announced it was canceling 9-1-1: Lone Star in September 2024, about a year after the network canceled Lone Star’s parent series, 9-1-1, before 9-1-1 moved to ABC. Rubinstein is an original cast member on 9-1-1: Lone Star and has played paramedic Tyler Kennedy “TK” Strand, the son of fire captain Owen Strand, since Season 1. TK is also one half of the main couple on 9-1-1: Lone Star — and one of the few LGBTQ+ couples currently on primetime — Tarlos. The other half is TK’s husband, police officer Carlos Reyes. The couple married in the Season 4 finale.

Although Rubinstein is now the father of his own child, it proved to be a contentious issue between TK and Carlos after TK learned in 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 4 that Carlos didn’t want children of his own in “Carlos, since when did you not want children?” TK asked Carlos, to which Carlos replied, “Since when did I say I did?”

TK continued, “I don’t know. I guess I just assumed… How come we’ve never had this conversation?” Carlos explained that he had never brought up the subject because children weren’t something he thought about, especially since their first responder job was so hectic. “But I love children, Carlos,” TK said, and Carlos replied, “I love other people’s children.”

When TK continued to press Carlos about how much he loved children, Carlos explained that he just wanted his relationship with TK to remain just the two of them. “I just want us to have the chance to be ourselves. There’s still so much I want to do with you. I want to hike the Great Wall with you. I want to sleep in Tuscany with you,” Carlos said. “I don’t think we’re ready for that level of responsibility. We’ve never even had pets.”

When TK thinks Carlos won’t be a good father, he tells him, “You never said that. But I think you’ll be a great husband.”
