Will Trent Official Trailer Reveals ABC’s New Crime Procedural Series. Based on the best-selling books by Karin Slaughter, the series follows Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Will Trent. Starring Ramón Rodríguez as the title character, Trent was abandoned at birth and struggled to grow up in Atlanta’s overburdened foster care system. Now working to ensure no one else suffers as he did, Trent has the highest clearance rate at the GBI, despite hiding his dyslexia and feeling somewhat alone in the system. Slaughter serves as executive producer on the series, with the first episode written by Liz Heldens and Dan Thomsen.
ABC took to social media to reveal the official Will Trent trailer today, offering a first look at the new crime procedural series. The trailer follows the not-so-ordinary crime scene investigator on a typical day in his busy life. Meet the “objectively hot” special agent in the official Will Trent trailer below: The Will Trent trailer provides a perfect glimpse into the titular character, who starts his day by rescuing an abandoned dog, desperate to turn it into a shelter. The crime scene prodigy, with a flair for fashion, is then called in to investigate the murder of a teenage girl. He’s paired with rookie Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson) by Deputy Director Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn). Not everyone sees Trent as an equal, with the words “traitor,” “snitch,” and “crook” spray-painted all over his car, it’s clear he has some enemies. Trent’s loner status is further illustrated when one investigator tells him, “looking at you in a three-piece suit, it’s like every day is your wedding day.” Despite his intelligence, it seems not everyone is his biggest fan.
Will Trent is also joining Disney+’s Cheaper By The Dozen, which stars Erika Christensen as Trent’s love interest, Angie Polaski, who he grew up with in foster care. Quantico’s Jake McLaughlin also stars as veteran detective Michael Ormewood. Both characters appear in the books, with This Is Us star Jennifer Morrison returning to television in the series as Abigail Campano, the mother of a murder victim. Each episode will be an hour long.
The Will Trent series consists of 10 novels, starting with Triptych in 2006. It’s clear that the show has a lot of material to cover, and it follows a similar timeline to the novels. The series looks set to include a good amount of humor and action, along with mystery and suspense to keep viewers on their toes. With a budding romance on the way, Will Trent could follow in the footsteps of previous ABC series like The Rookie and become the next must-watch cop drama to take center stage on the network. Will Trent premieres Tuesday, January 3, on ABC and will stream on Hulu.
