Kaley Cuoco has expressed her enduring love for her character Penny from The Big Bang Theory, revealing that the role holds a special place in her heart. In a recent interview with People published on October 19, the actress reflected on the profound impact the show had on her life and career.
“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career,” Cuoco shared. “I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”
Cuoco, now 38, played Penny, a waitress and aspiring actress who becomes a central figure in the lives of a group of self-professed nerds. The show, which aired from September 2007 to May 2019, ran for 12 seasons, earned 10 Emmy Awards, and even spawned the successful spinoff Young Sheldon, centered on the childhood of Jim Parsons’ iconic character, Sheldon Cooper.
When asked if she would consider reprising her role, Cuoco was enthusiastic: “I would absolutely reprise that role. One hundred percent. I love that character, and I always will.”
New Beginnings for Cuoco
While Cuoco remains fond of her time on The Big Bang Theory, she is currently thriving in her personal and professional life. She stars in the new Peacock series Based on a True Story and has recently announced her engagement to actor Tom Pelphrey.
On August 14, she took to Instagram to share her joy, posting a picture that showcased her engagement ring along with the caption, “Amazing weekend.” The couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Matilda, in March 2023. Cuoco celebrated Matilda’s arrival with a heartfelt Instagram post, expressing her gratitude for the support from medical staff and loved ones during this special time. “Introducing Matilda Carmine Richie Pelphrey, the new light of our lives! We are overjoyed and grateful for this little miracle 💓,” she wrote.
Plans for the Future
Looking ahead, Cuoco has shared her excitement about expanding her family. In an interview published on September 22, she remarked on her unconventional plans for family growth, saying, “We’re gonna go way out of order. That’s our plan.” With four dogs, a one-year-old daughter, and fiancé Tom Pelphrey in the mix, she acknowledges that life is quite busy, but it’s a joyful kind of chaos.
Cuoco and Pelphrey’s love story began through their mutual manager, Andrea Pett-Joseph, who believed they would be “perfect for each other.” The two hit it off at the final season premiere of Ozark in April 2022, leading to a blossoming relationship that has already brought them countless cherished moments.
Kaley Cuoco’s enthusiasm for her past role as Penny, coupled with her exciting present and future, illustrates the lasting impact of The Big Bang Theory on both her career and personal life.
