“The Disappearance of Will Trent: What Happened in the Season 2 Finale?”

Following an explosive finale, showrunners Will Trent, Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsoen sat down with TVLine to discuss some of the burning questions following the Season 2 finale, as well as the upcoming Season 3, which has been confirmed for April 3, 2024. The finale saw a tragic end for most of the characters, one such ending that saw our protagonist, played by Ramón Rodríguez, pack up and leave town. It’s assumed he’ll return, with a third season confirmed, but the question of exactly where he’ll go remains one of the most common following Tuesday’s finale. Speaking to TVLine, Thomson weighed in on the possibility that Will could visit Antonio (John Ortiz) in Puerto Rico, saying: I mean, we can certainly make choices. No decisions have been made yet, but if you were ranking places Will would want to go, that would definitely be among them.” The gripping second season finale also saw a dramatic end to Will’s relationship with Angie (Erika Christensen), as Will arrested her after she made false statements and tampered with vital evidence. This arrest, which came shortly after Will had imagined the two of them living a perfect married life together, left them both in a difficult emotional state, with the chances of their relationship recovering certainly slim. As for the chances of their romantic survival, Helden said, “I mean, I’ve never arrested a romantic partner before, but it seems like it’s going to be hard to go back.” The plan for Season 3 is definitely to get the characters back to their best. Of course, this will involve answering many lingering questions from the finale. One of the The plot point that needs to be addressed is Angie’s arrest, with the upcoming trial and possible prison sentence dominating the third season. Speaking again to TVLine, showrunner Thomsen said: “One of the things that I really wanted to look at is, in real life, the way police officers go through the justice system is different than the average person, especially when it comes to righteous conduct. I think we want to take our time and try to figure out what this would be like for someone [like Angie] who’s been in this situation [involving Lenny]. I’m wrong, but I don’t know that it’s going to be like a long trial. That’s probably not the area that we want to explore. But I think this is going to mark a very important change in Angie’s life.”
