Secrets and Tension: Dom Pascal’s Rocky Road on Chicago Fire

Dom Pascal’s entry into Firehouse 51 has sparked tension and disrupted the familiar rhythm of Chicago Fire in Season 13. Known for his strict approach and refusal to befriend the team, Pascal has made it clear that he values order over popularity. Actor Dermot Mulroney, who portrays Pascal, explained to TV Insider that Pascal isn’t interested in being liked. “He’s not there to be anybody’s best friend,” Mulroney emphasized, noting that Pascal’s stern style is intentional and rooted in his character’s focus on leadership.

In the November 6 episode, titled “Birds of Prey,” the friction between Pascal and Kelly Severide becomes apparent when the two clash over how to handle a recent call. This moment illustrates the growing resistance to Pascal’s leadership style, but, as Mulroney suggests, Pascal isn’t phased. He was brought in to run a tight ship, not win popularity contests. Mulroney explained, “Pascal himself is not that familiar with what led up to Season 13… He’s trying to run a tight ship, but it’s a little hard. Pascal’s kind of a rules-y guy.”

More Pascal Clashes Ahead for Firehouse 51

Pascal’s past adds another layer of mystery to his character, with allusions to previous controversies in both Miami and Chicago. According to Mulroney, the show’s writers have cleverly dropped hints about his past without giving too much away. “The writers are brilliant by how slight the mention had to be in those early episodes about what happened in Miami, that it’s driving people crazy,” he teased. This storyline keeps viewers guessing about what brought Pascal to Firehouse 51 and whether his arrival will ultimately benefit the crew.

Upcoming episodes hint that Pascal’s leadership style may stir even more tension. His strict adherence to rules, even while occasionally bending them himself, has created friction with various team members. Pascal’s conflict with Severide over Stella and Kelly’s working relationship may further complicate matters. Adding to the tension, Herrmann is considering stepping into a leadership role, potentially vying for the position that Pascal currently holds. Mulroney hinted that a showdown may be in store, noting, “Pascal was put directly in Herrmann’s path… as the heir apparent to that seat behind the chief’s desk.” Mulroney added, “Well, sorry, Pascal’s here, and I don’t feel like he’s going anywhere.”

With his tough-as-nails leadership style and a mysterious backstory that continues to unravel, Dom Pascal has quickly become a complex character, stirring up Firehouse 51 in ways fans hadn’t anticipated.
