Blue Bloods has officially wrapped filming, with the cast and crew reeling from the end of an era. Like his steadfast character, NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, Tom Selleck chose to honor the moment with just the right words.

In an interview with TV Insider, Tom gave fans a firsthand look at the last scene of the series—and how he chose to commemorate it.

“My last scene was, ironically, a family dinner; that was also the first scene I shot on the show 15 years ago,” he exclaimed. “I’m not going to tell you everything about the last episode… but the family dinner kind of reunites the Reagan family. Erin’s daughter Nicky (Sami Gayle) was there and so was Jack (Tony Terraciano), Danny’s older son. Everybody agreed with me that we should close the set for the family dinner and not exploit that. Most of them had four more days to shoot, but not me.”

One shot led to the next and before he knew it, his work on the Blue Bloods set had come to a close.

“We were shooting for hours and all of a sudden, they said ‘Well, that was the last shot,’” Tom revealed. “I always wanted to say this poem, ‘Love Is Not All’ by Edna St. Vincent Millay. There was crying and there was an enormous amount of hugs. Donnie was really broken up; he didn’t say much. Bridget spoke. Just about everybody said something. Vanessa [Ray] was pretty beat up by the experience.”

Honestly, as is to be expected. Blue Bloods has been one of the longest-running police procedurals on primetime TV. Since the show’s premiere in 2010, fans have set aside Friday nights to tune in to the latest happenings with the Reagan family and their various partners and squads. And on Friday, October 18, they’ll have the opportunity to once more—and for seven Fridays thereafter. Once the eight new episodes hit the air, however, that’s a wrap. Don’t fret though! Fans will still be able to get their Blue Bloods fix. All 14 seasons are available to stream on Paramount+.
