Netflix’s Virgin River creator adapting new series from the same author with one major twist
Roma Roth, who is behind Netflix’s hit series Virgin River, is set to adapt another of Robyn Carr’s book series for television, promising a fresh twist on the genre
Roma Roth, the mastermind behind the hit series Virgin River, is gearing up to adapt another of Robyn Carr’s beloved book series for the screen. The new nine-part bestselling saga, Thunder Point, will offer viewers a fresh take on the romance and mystery genre, promising to stand out from the Netflix hit and the recently adapted Sullivan’s Crossing series.
Set in a charming coastal town, Thunder Point revolves around a contentious property dispute that ensnares a male newcomer, Hank Cooper, following his inheritance of a beachfront property after attending a friend’s funeral.
As he delves deeper into the local skirmish, he also becomes enchanted by Sarah Dupre, a mysterious and intriguing resident.
Having successfully brought both Virgin River and Sullivan’s Crossing to life on CTV and The CW, Roth is well-versed in converting Carr’s stories for television audiences. While the platform for Thunder Point’s premiere is yet to be announced, Roth shared her excitement about the project, saying: “Thunder Point has drama, mystery, and romance, all the ingredients you need to successfully build a global hit series.
“It is certain to appeal to fans of both Sullivan’s Crossing and Virgin River but this time the story is told from a male perspective.
“We are beyond excited to be continuing our incredibly successful run with best-selling author Robyn Carr”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Carr herself expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m so thrilled that Roma will be producing Thunder Point.
“She did such an exceptional job with her previous adaptations of my work, and I just can’t wait to see who she casts for this fan favorite small-town series.
“Roma is a gifted artist whose creative eye is a joy for viewers! Brava, Roma.”
Celebrated writer Robyn Carr, renowned for her prolific output of over 60 novels, has seen her latest work, The Friendship Club, hit the shelves this past January.
Meanwhile, in the world of streaming, Virgin River has made headlines as it announced its seventh season will come knocking well before the premiere of its sixth, showing tremendous confidence in the popular series.
Starring Alexandra Breckenridge as healthcare professional Mel Monroe and Martin Henderson as the rugged ex-Marine Jack Sheridan, the series charts Mel’s journey as she relocates to the cozy titular town Virgin River following a heartache and discovers romance amidst its charming community.
With this new installment, Virgin River not only stamps its mark as Netflix’s longest-standing ongoing drama serial but also as the longest-running scripted series in English on the entertainment service.
