Hold on tight, this author has some news that is sure to make the aristocracy gasp. The diamonds of the upcoming season have made their first public appearance, or in this case, video together. That’s right, a Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and a Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) have joined hands for a dramatic reading of Julia Quinn’s fourth Bridgerton novel “An Offer From a Gentleman,” which is expected to form the basis for the fourth season of Netflix’s exciting regency drama.

This new opt-in video highlights the pair, who are set to be the talk of the aristocracy in no time. Taking turns reciting a section of the novel, Thompson begins: “The most sought-after invitation this year has to be the invitation to the Bridgerton masquerade ball, which will be held next Monday.” Indeed, one cannot take two steps without being forced to listen to some upper-class matron speculate about who will attend,” Ha continued. “And perhaps more importantly, who will wear what,” Thompson added. Ha then turned to her on-screen partner and asked, “Do you know what this means?” Thompson replied, “I believe it means we have to prepare for a ball.” The couple’s recitation is particularly interesting—as all viewers of the show know—because it is at this masquerade ball that the couple will first meet.

Sophie is expected to steal Benedict’s heart once and for all in season four when he is acquitted by a Lady in Silver at his family’s prestigious ball. This is especially significant because, so far, the audience has been a spectator to Benedict’s repeated struggles to balance his own identity with the expectation that he will settle down and marry. Last season, he threw himself headfirst into Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New) only for things to become more normal in a menage a trois that eventually led to him vowing to find himself.

However, there’s clearly something special about Sophie, who is said to have lived a difficult life as a maid for the upper class. Despite her keen interest in caring for others, very little is known about her and she’s quite happy to keep it that way as a woman who tends to hide her true self from the world. In that way, Benedict is the complete opposite, showing his emotions, which is sure to create an explosive dynamic.

Bridgerton season four doesn’t have an air date yet, but it’s expected to air sometime next year. You can watch the video above and rewatch the entire Regency drama from seasons one to three on Netflix now. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
