After appearing in a season 1 episode, Sofia Pernas returned as Billie Matalon in Tracker season 2, episode 3, to team up with Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw once again and show why the two characters don’t get along. Pernas debuted as Billie, a rival stalker of Colter’s, in season 1, episode 6. Billie was Colter’s former partner who kidnapped him by taking the reward money from a case for herself and skipping town. However, in season 1, the two stalkers teamed up to find a missing racehorse and reunited on another case in Tracker season 2’s storyline.
Colter has had quite a few love interests throughout Tracker, but Billie is definitely one of the most prominent. Alongside Reenie Greene and Camille Picket, Billie is one of Colter’s most notable romantic prospects. Colter and Billie definitely have chemistry (after all, the actors are married in real life). However, just because two characters have romantic chemistry doesn’t mean they should act on that romance. For example, in theory, Colter and Billie should work as a couple. However, Tracker season 2, episode 3 proves that they’re better off as rivals/friends than a couple.
At the beginning of Tracker season 2, episode 3, “Bloodlines,” Billie calls Colter to ask for help with a job. A high school baseball player, Eric Dobbs, has gone missing in his hometown of Nebraska (which is news to Colter, who thinks Billie is from Miami). Since Billie had previously left town without a good relationship with the locals, she convinces Colter to act as a buffer between her and them while they try to find Eric. So Sofia Pernas’ character has good intentions this time around. As a result, Billie has a different relationship with Colter in Tracker season 2, episode 3. The former partners and current rivals team up to find Eric. The confusing case takes a few twists and turns over the course of the hour until Colter and Billie are on the trail of a bionic group that uses young blood as an anti-aging agent. When the man who posted the reward for Eric’s recovery, Shane Nile, backs out, so does Billie. While she leaves town without finding Eric or the reward, Shane kidnaps her and takes her to where Eric is being held. Colter eventually saves them both, and Billie opens up to him about her past in Tracker season 2, episode 3. Even though Billie was a little vulnerable with Colter at the end of Tracker season 2, episode 3, the moment still proves why they shouldn’t be a couple. Colter and Billie have completely different values and principles when it comes to their work. While Billie is primarily in it for the money, Colter thrives when he helps people. She quits in episode 3 after the bounty runs out, but Colter stays and is committed to finding Eric. Neither side is right or wrong, but the methods and morals of the Tracker characters will never match.
So if Colter and Billie were to start dating, it would just end in disaster. They are who they are as people and as trackers, and that will never change.
If they were to become a couple, Colter and Billie’s personal and professional lives would constantly clash. Honestly, their personal and professional lives are interchangeable because they are essentially one. So if Colter and Billie were to start dating, it would just end in disaster. They are who they are as people and as stalkers, and that will never change. Perhaps CBS’s first Tracker spinoff could revolve around Billie’s adventures, but a world where Billie is the one Colter ends up with is unrealistic.
Despite “Bloodlines” laying out all the reasons why Billie is the wrong woman for Colter, Sofia Pernas will be returning in future episodes. According to US Weekly, Justin Hartley confirmed that his wife, Pernas, will reprise her role as Billie after Tracker season 2, episode 3 concludes. While appearing on Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Hartley said, “[Sofia Pernas will be] in next week [Tracker season 2, episode 3]. She’ll be back a couple of times. It’s great to have her, and we have the best guest stars on our show.”
It’s unclear which episodes Pernas will play Billie in. However, Tracker season 2 is said to have 22 episodes, meaning there will be plenty of opportunities for the actress to return to the CBS action drama. In addition to Pernas, Jensen Ackles is also expected to return as Russell Shaw in Tracker season 2 after appearing in episode 2, and Hartley is hoping that Melissa Roxburgh will reprise her role as Dory Shaw before the season ends.
