Wednesday Season 2 Won’t Premiere Until 2025

Wednesday season 2 won’t be back until 2025, more than two years after the Jenna Ortega-led hit dramedy first made its debut on Netflix.

Wednesday season 2 won’t be back until 2025. Tim Burton revealed his vision for the Addams family world in November 2022, directing the first four episodes of the fantasy drama, which sees Jenna Ortega in the title role. Her version of the character is expelled from high school and enrolled in Nevermore, a school for monstrous misfits, where she still struggles to fit in. The eight-episode teen drama included elements of mystery and horror, becoming one of Netflix’s biggest hits in just a matter of months.

Despite its explosion in popularity and much-anticipated return, Deadline reports that Wednesday season 2 is one of the Netflix shows impacted by the Hollywood strikes, which went on for much of the second half of 2023. It is not scheduled to begin production on season 2 until late April in a new location, Ireland, and won’t be released in 2024.

What We Know About Wednesday Season 2

The finale of Wednesday season 1, written by co-showrunners Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, sees the titular Addams family member back home for summer break. She receives threatening texts from an unknown number, which amuses her. The texts show images of Wednesday talking to Tyler (Hunter Doohan) and getting a new phone from Xavier (Percy Hynes White). The series ends with the revelation that the titular protagonist has gotten her very own stalker.

Ortega will be upgraded to a producer on Wednesday season 2. In previous comments, the star has highlighted how there had been a decision to lean into Wednesday’s horror elements. She also said that season 2 would ditch romantic love interests, following the season 1 love triangle story that included Tyler and Xavier. It’s unclear what this shift means regarding how the cliffhanger will be handled.
Casting is also so far unknown, although it is expected that the primary Addams family members will return. The first installment also included big names like Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie and Addams Family actor Christina Ricci, who played a young Wednesday in the 1990s movie, but the show seemingly cleaned house and provided resolution for major characters. At least, with production on Wednesday season 2 beginning in April, more will likely be revealed.
