“Ryan Murphy Unveils Exciting New 9-1-1 Spin-Off – Fans Are in for a Treat!”

A new 911 spinoff is in the works, and creator Ryan Murphy has shared an exciting announcement about the show’s development status.

After premiering in 2018, the original 911 has moved further into Season 8 with a beloved cast led by Oscar nominee Angela Bassett. Thanks to the show’s immense popularity, the series has expanded with its first spinoff series, 911: Lone Star, which began in January 2020. Starring Rob Lowe, 911: Lone Star is now entering its fifth and final season, marking the end of a chapter in the larger 911 story. However, it seems there’s no end in sight for Ryan Murphy’s popular procedural world as he continues to create new storylines.

Speaking to The Wrap, 911 creator Ryan Murphy addressed the status of the show’s new spinoff series, which will be the second installment following 911: Lone Star.

When talking about his hiatus from the day jobs of his shows, Murphy noted that he and 911 showrunner Tim Minear are hard at work on their new series.

Specifically, he revealed that the two recently reconnected to work on the new 911 spinoff, confirming that it will begin filming in March 2025: “It’s great and I’m proud. Tim Minear did an incredible job with that ‘911’ series. I loved working with him. Him and I, we did ‘Horror Story’ together at first. We did ‘FEUD: Betty and Joan’ together, and then he went to do ‘911’ and then my schedule got really packed. I recently got back together to work on the first episode of the next ‘911’ spinoff that’s shooting in March. So having Tim back there is really fun because Tim and I talk all the time, and he understands that. Alexis and Max understand that. I just love the collaborations that I’m doing.”

What will happen in the new 911 spinoff?
While no specific details have been released about the plot of the third installment in the 911 series, Deadline reports that Las Vegas, Nevada is a potential choice for a location. This would follow the original 911 using Los Angeles, California as its setting and Austin, Texas as the setting for 911: Lone Star.

Las Vegas is no stranger to being a setting for television shows. It was notably used for both CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and its reboot, CSI: Vegas. Outside of the procedural world, shows like Hacks (see more about the cast of Hacks Season 3 here) and Las Vegas have used Sin City to great success.

If the new spinoff begins filming in Las Vegas, it would be surprising to not see that city used for a new first responder team in this universe. However, considering that 911: Lone Star was filmed in Los Angeles, California while it was set in Austin, Texas, another metropolitan area can’t be ruled out.

Fans should also keep an eye out for future episodes of 911 Season 8 to see if this new spinoff picks up where it left off in a secret pilot episode from the original series. The team could be sent to Vegas to investigate an undisclosed case, potentially introducing characters who will lead Ryan Murphy’s new show.

Thankfully, with filming just a few months away, fans should hopefully hear more casting and production details sometime in late 2024 and early 2025. New episodes of 911 Season 8 will premiere on ABC every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, while new episodes of 911: Lone Star will premiere every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on FOX. Episodes of both shows are available to stream on Hulu the day after their release.
