Moschino Just Brought Back The Nanny Fran Fine’s Favorite Accessory: the Heart Bag

Adrian Appiolaza, the house’s new creative director, unveiled the piece at his debut show during Milan Fashion Week.

Dressing the like flashy girl from Flushing is about to get a whole lot easier!

Last week, Moschino unveiled its fall 2024 collection in Milan under the leadership of newly-appointed creative director Adrian Appiolaza. (The designer, who previously worked with Loewe, took over the reins of the Italian label after Jeremy Scott’s exit last year.) His debut show was chock-full of oversized trench coats, whimsical ensembles featuring smiley faces, dresses with ruffled skirts teamed oversized cableknit cardigans, and cowboy hats galore. But there was one accessory, in particular, that caught some of The Nanny’s eagle-eyed fans’ attention: a red heart-shaped bag.

The purse in question that appeared on the runway was almost identical to the house’s founder Franco Moschino’s original design from the ’90s which Fran Fine famously carried in the hit sitcom show. To be specific: Fran Drescher’s irrepressible character was spotted with the piece in a season 3 episode called “An Offer She Can’t Refuse,” where she’s afraid to break up with her new Italian boyfriend, Tony the Mobster, after finding out he has underworld connections. Classic.
The heart bag wasn’t the only familiar piece showcased on the runway, either. Appiolaza unveiled a polka-dot suit, which according to W Magazine, was a “a modern rework of a piece Franco designed and Fine worn in the TV series.”

If this is only the beginning of Appiolaza’s work for Moschino, we have a feeling the Nanny fans will be pleased with what’s to come.

As for how to get your hands on that heart-shaped bag? We have good and bad news: Unfortunately, it likely won’t be available to purchase until fall—but if you can’t wait that long, Moschino has a modern iteration of the purse available on its website now. Or, if you fancy yourself a collectable, the vintage version is also available on the internet. Either way, it’s a style that’s too pretty to pass up.
