Kaley Cuoco Says She’d “100%” Reprise Penny in Potential Big Bang Theory Revival

The Big Bang Theory, which premiered in 2007 and ran for 12 successful seasons, remains one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. The show’s popularity led to spin-offs and continues to keep fans talking, especially with cast members reflecting fondly on their time in the series. One such star, Kaley Cuoco, has expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the role that helped launch her career.

Cuoco, who portrayed Penny, the lovable and sometimes ditzy neighbor-turned-friend of Leonard and Sheldon, recently spoke with People about her time on The Big Bang Theory. She had nothing but positive things to say, sharing that she would be thrilled to step back into Penny’s shoes.

“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career,” Cuoco said. “I owe a lot to that character, to that show, and to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”

When asked if she would reprise her role, Cuoco didn’t hesitate. “I would absolutely reprise that role. 100%,” she confirmed. “I love that character, and I always will.”

Penny’s character arc over the series was a fan favorite. Starting as a waitress and aspiring actress who lived across the hall from Sheldon and Leonard, Penny’s character evolved significantly. Initially perceived as less intelligent and carefree, she gradually matured, finding her footing and becoming more ambitious, organized, and reliable. By the end of the series, Penny was the go-to friend for advice, demonstrating considerable growth.

What’s Next for The Big Bang Theory Universe?

While The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019 after earning 10 Emmy Awards, its universe has continued to expand. The show’s main cast, including Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Mayim Bialik, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar, has gone on to pursue other projects, but their time on the show left a lasting impact.

In 2017, CBS launched Young Sheldon, a successful prequel focused on the childhood of Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons. The series concluded in 2024 after seven seasons. Following Young Sheldon’s success, another spin-off, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, premiered in October 2024, continuing to explore stories within the Big Bang universe.

There’s more on the horizon for fans of The Big Bang Theory. Reports suggest a new spin-off is in the works at Max (formerly HBO Max), featuring several recurring characters from the original show, including Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus. Though no details about this untitled project have been confirmed, the expansion of the Big Bang universe keeps the possibility of reunions and revivals alive.

In the meantime, Kaley Cuoco has kept busy post-Big Bang. She starred in the HBO series The Flight Attendant, earning three Emmy nominations for her performance, and currently leads the series Based on a True Story, which will return for a new season. While there are no immediate plans for Cuoco to reprise her role as Penny, the actress and her co-stars haven’t ruled out the possibility in the future.

With the ongoing success of spin-offs and Cuoco’s excitement about returning to her iconic role, fans of The Big Bang Theory can remain hopeful that a reunion or revival may happen down the line.
