Kaley Cuoco has made it clear that her love for the character Penny in The Big Bang Theory remains as strong as ever. In a recent interview with People published on October 19, the actress reflected on the significant impact her role in the hit CBS sitcom had on her life and career.
“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre,” Cuoco shared. “It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.” The series, which premiered in September 2007 and concluded in 2019 after 12 successful seasons, not only showcased Cuoco’s talent but also captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.
Cuoco expressed her willingness to return to the role, stating, “I would absolutely reprise that role. 100 percent. I love that character, and I always will.” Her enthusiasm highlights the enduring connection she feels with Penny, a character who navigated the complexities of life and romance alongside a group of self-proclaimed nerds.
During its run, The Big Bang Theory garnered ten Emmy Awards and inspired a successful prequel spin-off, Young Sheldon, centered around Jim Parsons’ iconic character, Sheldon Cooper. The popularity of Young Sheldon has led to yet another spin-off, titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which premiered on October 17.
In addition to her nostalgic reflections on The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco is also enjoying a flourishing career, currently starring in the Peacock series Based on a True Story. On the personal front, she recently announced her engagement to Tom Pelphrey, sharing the joyous news on social media.
On August 14, Cuoco posted a heartfelt Instagram Story revealing her engagement, accompanied by a photo of her stunning ring and the caption, “Amazing weekend.” The couple welcomed their daughter, Matilda, in March 2023, a moment Cuoco celebrated with an emotional post. “Introducing Matilda Carmine Richie Pelphrey, the new light of our lives! We are overjoyed and grateful for this little miracle 💓,” she wrote, expressing gratitude to the medical team and loved ones who supported them during this special time.
Cuoco and Pelphrey, both 42, are excited about their future family plans. “We’re gonna go way out of order. That’s our plan,” Cuoco said in an interview with People published on September 22. She humorously added, “I have four dogs now, and a [1-year-old baby], and a Tom — it’s a lot.”
The couple’s romantic journey began when they were introduced by their mutual manager, Andrea Pett-Joseph, who believed they would be a perfect match. The two hit it off at the premiere of the final season of Ozark in April 2022, marking the start of their love story.
As Cuoco looks back on her time as Penny and embraces her current joys, fans can’t help but hope for a return of the beloved character in the future. Whether through a spin-off or a special reunion, her connection to Penny remains a cherished part of her journey, and Cuoco’s excitement about the possibility of reprising the role only adds to the anticipation.
