The Season 12 finale of Chicago Fire shocked fans when Jack Damon was revealed as Kelly Severide’s half-brother. However, just a few episodes into Season 13, Damon’s storyline abruptly ended, leaving viewers without the closure his character deserved. After the dramatic changes in Firehouse 51—such as Chief Dom Pascal replacing Boden and the revelation of Damon and Severide’s sibling bond—Damon’s departure left a lot unresolved, especially his fractured relationship with Stella Kidd.
Jack Damon Leaves Firehouse 51 in Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 4
In Season 13, Damon struggled with his role at Firehouse 51. He idolized Severide and saw him as a role model, but his desire to impress his brother led to reckless decisions. This became apparent in Episode 2 when Damon disobeyed direct orders from Lieutenant Stella Kidd during a rescue mission. Ignoring protocol, Damon disrespected Kidd and put the team at risk, forcing Severide to choose between his wife and his impulsive brother. Ultimately, Kidd requested that Damon be placed back in the floater pool.
In Episode 3, Chief Pascal criticized Kidd for the high turnover rate on Truck 81 but soon realized her leadership was not to blame. Thanks to Mouch’s support, Pascal recognized Kidd’s talent, and instead of reprimanding her, he fired Damon. Though Damon was furious, especially at Severide, whom he unfairly compared to their abusive father Benny Severide, he eventually made peace with his brother in Episode 4. Despite the apology, Damon did not regain his position at Firehouse 51, and his exit seemed to close his chapter—though without full resolution.
Damon Still Needs to Apologize to Stella Kidd
While Damon reconciled with Severide, his storyline still feels incomplete. His actions not only disrespected Kidd as a lieutenant but also strained their personal relationship, given her marriage to Severide. Damon owes Kidd a direct apology for his insubordination and for undermining her authority. Despite his fallout with Severide, it’s crucial that Damon also make amends with Kidd, whose professional arc in Season 13 has been partially defined by her challenges with Damon.
Although Damon made peace with his brother and severed ties with their father’s toxic legacy, his lack of closure with Kidd leaves a significant gap. It’s important that this conversation happens onscreen, rather than being resolved offscreen or in passing, as it is essential for the completion of both Damon and Kidd’s story arcs.
How Chicago Fire Can Continue Featuring Damon
Even though Damon is no longer at Firehouse 51 and has been replaced by Kylie, his character could still play a recurring role in Chicago Fire. Damon could make guest appearances, whether by running into his former colleagues during an emergency call, grabbing drinks at Molly’s, or joining in for special occasions. Additionally, the series had hinted at a potential romance between Damon and Lizzie Novak, which could provide further reasons for his character to return.
In any case, Damon’s story shouldn’t end with his firing. Whether or not he stays in the firehouse, there are still unresolved issues—particularly with Stella Kidd—that demand closure. Allowing him to return, even in a limited capacity, would give the audience the satisfying conclusion to his arc that they deserve.
