First Damon. Now [Spoiler]? The Chicago Fire Double Firing We *Never* Saw Coming

She’s been one half of Firehouse 51’s paramedic duo for the past five seasons, but could Violet Mikamiā€˜s time as an EMT on Chicago Fire be done?

Hanako Greensmith made her debut as paramedic Violet Mikami in Season 8 of Chicago Fire. She started as a recurring cast member for Seasons 8 and 9 before she was promoted to a series regular in Season 10. Violet joined as a rival to firefighter Blake Gallo, whom she trained in the fire academy with. She officially joined Ambulance 61 in Firehouse 51 in Season 9 after former paramedic Gianna Mackey’s exit. She was promoted to Paramedic in Charge in Season 12 following her former paramedic partner Sylvie Brett’s departure.

Is Violet Mikami leaving Chicago Fire?
Violet sparked speculation she was leaving Chicago Fire in Season 13, Episode 4, “Through the Skin,” in which she gives an emergency cesarian section surgery to a pregnant woman and has her emergency medical services license suspended. “What do you think is going to happen to me?” Violet asks Firehouse 51’s new Chief Dom Pascal.

As of writing, NBC nor Greensmith have confirmed that Violet is leaving Chicago Fire. In fact, Greensmith still has “Violet Mikami šŸ”„ @nbconechicago” in her Instagram biography, which indicates that she’s remaining on the show. She also shared an Instagram post in September 2024 promoting Chicago Fire Season 13, which also hints that she’ll be in the rest of the new season. “Lucky season 13 let’s GO MFS šŸ”„,” she captioned the post. Her co-star Jake Lockett, who plays Violet’s love interest Sam Carver on Chicago Fire, commented, “You know how to get my good side!”

If Violet was to be fired, her termination would come one episode after firefighter Jack Damon was let go by Pascal after he lied about his relationship with his brother, Lieutenant Kelly Severide, and deliberately disobeyed the orders of his sister-in-law Lieutenant Stella Kidd, leaving Stella with no choice but to push Pascal to put Damon back in the floater pool.

Greensmith would also join a long list of One Chicago stars who have left the franchise in the past year including Chicago Fire alums Kara Killmer (who played Sylvie Brett), Eamonn Walker (who played Chief Wallace Boden), and Alberto Rosende (who played Blake Gallo.) All three cast members left Chicago Fire in Season 12. The One Chicago franchise also saw the recent exits of Tracy Spiridakos (who played Detective Hailey Upton) on Chicago P.D. and Dominic Rains (who played Dr. Crockett Marcel) on Chicago Med.

Chicago Fire showrunne Andrea Newman told TVLine in 2024 about why there have been so many exits from the One Chicago franchise in the past year. (Chicago Med alum Nick Gehlfuss, who played Dr. Will Halstead, and Chicago P.D. alum Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Detective Jay Halstead, also left their respective series in recent seasons.)

“Honestly, longevity is really just part of it,” Newman said, explaining that shows that run as long as Chicago Fire have to shake things up to keep storylines fresh “[In] storytelling and in terms of real life, 12 years is a long time and things need to change, just dynamic-wise. You want new characters and you want new dynamics.” She continued, “Actor-wise, 12 years is a long [time]. Nobody expects in TV [that] they’re going to be anywhere for 12 years, I can say that for sure, from all sides.”
