Bridgerton Season 4: Simone Ashley’s Update Brings Relief, but Anthony & Kate’s Future Remains Uncertain

Simone Ashley recently confirmed that she will be returning to Bridgerton season 4 as Kate Sharma Bridgerton, but the potential Anthony and Kate storyline still raises some concerns. There has been a fair amount of speculation about whether Simone Ashley will return to Bridgerton season 4, especially since she has been vocal about wanting to reprise her role. There has been no news for a while, and things are starting to look grim. However, Simone Ashley has shared with Glamor that she will be returning to Bridgerton season 4, finally putting to rest my fears about the show writing off Kate Sharma.

It’s a relief, especially considering Regé-Jean Page left the role of Simon Basset after Bridgerton season 1 and Phoebe Dynevor left the role of Daphne Bridgerton after season 2. Thankfully, Kate Sharma Bridgerton will be appearing in season 4, but this confirmation doesn’t ease my concerns about the fourth season. Now that both Anthony and Kate are officially back in Bridgerton season 4, I have some other concerns regarding the subplot — more specifically, how the show will handle Anthony and Kate’s storylines and how important their roles will be.

Kate Sharma Bridgerton is officially back in season four of Bridgerton, avoiding a potential problem the show would have had if they hadn’t included her character. Kate isn’t just another Bridgerton love interest; she’s the mother of the family and the breadwinner alongside Anthony Bridgerton. She plays a key role in Gregory Bridgerton’s love story, but the show has expanded the scope of the Bridgerton family. That means the Viscount and Viscountess should have more significant roles in the show than they did in the Bridgerton books.

Bridgerton: How the Show Improves Kate Sharma’s Character from the Books Simone Ashley’s Kate Sharma on Bridgerton is quite different from her character in the books, and the changes the show makes for the better.

Plus, Kate Sharma is one of the best characters on Bridgerton, and she deserves to continue her story even after getting her happy ending. There’s an important storyline about Kate from the books that the show doesn’t address, and it would be a great idea to explore it as a side plot in a future season. As long as Simone Ashley wants to return to the show, Bridgerton should continue to include Kate. Bridgerton would be making the biggest mistake of all by writing Kate off, but thankfully, the show didn’t go that route.

Even though Anthony and Kate are officially back in Bridgerton season 4, I still have some concerns about the importance of their roles in the upcoming season. Anthony and Kate’s story in Bridgerton season 3 is pretty straightforward. They’re still in the honeymoon phase, although we did see Kate take on some of the Viscountess responsibilities in the second half of the season. For the most part, though, Anthony and Kate are happily on another honeymoon. The reality is that they can’t stay in the honeymoon phase forever, so it’s time for their characters to have more substantial storylines again.

Unfortunately, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley have busy schedules, and it may be difficult to fit them into Bridgerton season 4 for any significant amount of time. Jonathan Bailey has been particularly busy lately, appearing as Fiyero in the film adaptation of Wicked. Jonathan Bailey will also star alongside Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World Rebirth, the next installment in the Jurassic Park series. So it may be difficult for Anthony and Kate to have major roles in Bridgerton season 4, even though they should.
