Rochelle Aytes is making a big move within CBS. The talented actress will be exiting the network’s hit procedural S.W.A.T. as a series regular to star alongside Morris Chestnut in the upcoming medical drama Watson, as reported by Deadline. However, there are hopes that she may still make appearances in Season 8 of S.W.A.T.
TVLine has reached out to CBS for confirmation regarding Aytes’ departure.
In S.W.A.T., Aytes has portrayed Nichelle Carmichael, the wife of team leader Hondo, played by Shemar Moore. She first appeared as a recurring character in Season 3 before becoming a full-time cast member in Season 6.
S.W.A.T. Season 7 was initially expected to be the final season, leading to the demotion of original cast members Kenny Johnson and Alex Russell from series regulars. Their characters, Luca and Street, were written out ahead of the finale. Despite the show’s surprise renewal, showrunner Andrew Dettman expressed skepticism about either actor returning as full-time cast members, emphasizing the desire to remain true to the stories previously told.
In Watson, Aytes will portray Dr. Mary Morstan, the ex-wife of the titular character (played by Chestnut) as he resumes his medical career following the death of his friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes. The series aims to provide a modern twist on the classic literary characters, with Moriarty—Holmes’ killer—playing a significant role. Dr. Morstan is described as a voice of reason and a reality check for her former husband.
