Nicola Coughlan Opens Up About Same-Sex Romance in ‘Bridgerton’, Talks About Role She’ll Play in Season 4
Nicola Coughlan is looking forward to portraying same-sex love in upcoming seasons of Bridgerton.

The 37-year-old actress was at the centre of the hit show’s third season and found lasting love with Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton as Penelope Featherington.

She’ll be back for the show’s upcoming fourth season!

In a recent interview, Nicola opened up about the role she’ll be playing as she brings Penelope back to life. She also responded to the news that Bridgerton will feature a same-sex romance, with Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) seemingly gearing up for a romance with a woman.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Nicola made it clear that she and the rest of the cast are excited about the prospect.

“I know that as a cast, we’re really hungry for a queer storyline and that representation is so, so important,” she said. “I just know that Hannah and Masali [Baduza, who plays Michaela Stirling] are going to do such a great job. They’re going to do an incredible job. Whenever the time comes, they’ll be ready and they’ll do such a great job.”

“I love Bridgerton because it’s a show that tells all kinds of different love stories,” she added. “So everyone should feel represented in it.”

Meanwhile, the actress is excited to return to the show as “someone who’s happily married with a really cute kid.”

“It feels like they [Penelope and Colin] went through all their struggles last time,” she said. “So they’re going to come back and just love each other and have the most wonderful time together.”
