Where Is He?! Mouch’s Chicago Fire Future Revealed as a Fourth Character Says Goodbye This Season
Not him too! With him missing from the past few episodes of Season 12, fans are left with so many questions about what happened to Mouch on Chicago Fire and where he is when Firehouse 51 needs him the most.
Chicago Fire is NBC’s drama series following the personal and professional lives of firefighters and paramedics at the Chicago Fire Department’s fictional Firehouse 51 in Chicago, Illinois. The series — which was created by Dick Wolf, the same mind behind the Law & Order and FBI franchises — is the first of NBC’s One Chicago franchise, which also includes Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and the since-cancelled Chicago Justice.
Randall “Mouch” McHolland, a senior firefighter on Truck 81, is one of five original characters still left on Chicago Fire, along with Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker); Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney); Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso); and Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg.) However, with three cast member exits already in Chicago Fire Season 12 (and another planned to happen soon), fans can’t help but wonder whether Mouch’s days as an OG of Firehouse 51 could be over — especially after he’s been missing for the final episodes of Season 12. So what happened to Mouch on Chicago Fire and where is he? Read on for what we know about Mouch’s future on Chicago Fire ahead.
What happened to Mouch on Chicago Fire?
What happened to Mouch on Chicago Fire? Mouch, played by Christian Stolte, has been missing from two episodes of Chicago Fire Season 12 so far: Episode 10, “The Wrong Guy,” and Episode 11, “Inside Man.” He also wasn’t seen in the preview for Episode 12, “Under Pressure,” which led viewers to wonder where he was and whether he was leaving the series.
So what happened to Mouch on Chicago Fire? In Episode 10, Lieutenant Kelly Severide explained that Mouch was out of town in Atlanta to take a tech rescue class. While he’s also expected to be gone in Episode 12, the summary for Episode 13 — which is also Chicago Fire‘s Season 12 finale — confirms that Mouch will return just in time to say goodbye to another character. Boden makes a decision that impacts the race for Deputy Commissioner. “A tense call brings up painful memories for Carver and Damon. Mouch struggles to adjust to the new Truck,” the logline reads.
While Stolte seems to be staying on Chicago Fire, the same can’t be said for at least one of his cast mates. News broke on May 7, 2024, that Eamonn Walker, who has played Chief Wallace Boden since Chicago Fire Season 12, was leaving the show as a series regular after 12 seasons. Boden — who has also been missing from a few episodes of Chicago Fire Season 12 — will leave in the Season 12 finale, which will reveal the result of his campaign to be the Chicago Fire Department’s new Deputy Commissioner.
While Walker is leaving the series as a series regular, he won’t be gone for good. Deadline confirmed that Walker will remain on Chicago Fire in a recurring capacity. Walker is the fourth Chicago Fire cast member to leave in Season 12, along with Kara Killmer (Sylvie Brett); Alberto Rosende (Blake Gallo); and Rome Flynn (Derrick Gibson.)
