David Boreanaz has a good feeling about the revival of one of his most beloved projects in “Bones.”
Boreanaz, who played FBI Agent Seeley Booth throughout all 12 seasons of “Bones” on Fox, said he would consider rebooting the drama, even though he’s not a psychopath.
The show is noted for the chemistry between his character and Emily Deschanel’s forensic anthropologist, Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan.
“When I really look at it, it’s the kind of show that’s beloved and engaging, and I don’t want to say pointless, but it’s pointless entertainment when you really think about it,” he told Variety.
“The dynamic between those two characters is really fun to play, and if there’s happiness and joy in it, then it’s easy; it’s not hard or difficult,” he said. “Obviously, (the revival) would be limited. It wouldn’t be a long-term thing, but working with her would be great. Trust me: It’s not something I’m focused on right now in my life, but it’s the only show I would consider — and I’ll say, consider.”
Boreanaz is a long-time presence on the small screen. In addition to “Bones,” he’s had roles on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “SEAL Team,” which recently wrapped up its seven-season run. “Bones” ran from 2005 to 2017, and Booth and Bones’ relationship was one of the series’ main storylines. They would have two children and marry during its run.
As for the potential for a return to “Bones,” Boreanaz says it’s possible.
“There’s been talk about coming back (into those roles) and doing a series somewhere — it’s an easy show to reprise. It’s not rocket science, right? It’s something you can jump in and out of, which would be fun,” he says.
“Recently when I was at Quantico and at the actual FBI, I was like, ‘I’m home! Booth is home!’ What you can do and start from there on your own would be amazing. I was walking around Quantico and the FBI, and I was like, ‘Imagine walking and having this great conversation here and having to find a dead body where the FBI is. How funny!’ So you never know…” Boreanaz had an idea of where Booth and Bones would be today.
“Booth would probably be honored at Quantico, at the actual FBI. We would have a daughter who would be at least 15, 16,” he said. “She would be in college, probably studying tactics to become an FBI agent, which would drive her mom crazy. And maybe she would change her anthropology course and take a forensics class in her program to become an FBI agent. Who knows?
“I think Booth wasn’t really active and was retired, and had to go back to a case, to solve something that happened on an FBI property,” he continued. “I think Brennan just had to keep writing books and getting awards. She’d be on the New York Times bestseller list, probably doing another book tour, and she was in the middle of a book tour and had to go to the FBI because of the award that I got. And then it all went wrong. I could see that, man!”
Boreanaz also got excited when talking about the experience of working with Deschanel.
“I miss her sunshine, her smile, she would push the boundaries of a scene,” he said, when asked what he missed most about his former co-star.
“The great thing about her is that she was so willing to work and be there for you,” he added. “That’s something I miss a lot about her. I don’t think I’ve ever been angry with Emily. It was just an energetic thing, and I miss her so much. I speak very fondly of her, and we still talk.”
