The second season of Will Trent on ABC has come to an end after ten thrilling episodes. The police procedural drama, based on the book series by Karin Slaughter, has consistently garnered a huge following and has become the highest-grossing show on the channel.
With the second season having fewer episodes than the first, viewers couldn’t get enough of the series and have started waiting for its return. But has Will Trent been renewed for a third season and if so, when will it premiere? Here’s everything we know so far.
Agent Will Trent will have to go through some more investigation as the show has been renewed for a third season. ABC announced the renewal in April 2024. As for when the new season will premiere, viewers will have to wait a bit as the series is not part of ABC’s fall schedule. Instead, the new season will debut mid-season next year.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Television Group Chairman Craig Erwich revealed that Will Trent Season 3 will premiere in January 2025. “We’re launching in January when we have big advertising platforms around New Year’s Eve, college football, and a big Christmas slate. Having those shows not go on hiatus is just the best way to continue to grow them, which is our goal,” the executive said of Will Trent and another ABC series, The Rookie.
Will Trent Season 3: Plot While the plot for the next season has yet to be revealed, Will Trent is a serialized drama that will continue to feature compelling cases for Will to solve in each episode. Meanwhile, Sara Linton, a popular character from Karin Slaughter’s books who becomes Will’s love interest, could also be introduced in the upcoming season.
Series star Ramón Rodríguez said in an interview that showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen could consider bringing Linton’s storyline into the show. “We’re going to start having conversations about Season 3: what it’s going to be like, and what those arcs are going to be, and I’m sure the [Sara Linton] conversation will come up,” Rodríguez told TVLine.
“How do you bring that character into this world? Who could play that role? I’m sure there are a lot of ideas out there, but we’re definitely keeping that in mind. We just want to make sure we get it right,” the actor added.
Will Trent Season 3: Cast Ramón Rodríguez will return as the title character in Will Trent Season 3. Other cast members expected to reprise their roles include Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, and Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell. ABC may announce other cast members joining the series in the future.
