‘Bridgerton’ Season 4: Luke Thompson Shares Benedict and Sophie’s ‘Classic’ Romance!
Bridgerton season 4 is officially in production.
On September 16, Netflix announced that the beloved series, based on the books by Julia Quinn, has begun filming its fourth season, which will see Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) find love at a masquerade ball with the elusive Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).
Thompson, 36, told Netflix’s Tudum that the upcoming season, based on Quinn’s An Offer from a Gentleman, will explore “the struggle between a classic fairy tale — the romance of it — and the reality of the world.”
“I’m really excited to see a lot of unexpected plot twists in Season 4,” Thompson said, teasing that one big “plot twist” he “could mention is this masquerade ball…” Related: Bridgerton Officially Introduces Yerin Ha as Benedict’s Love Interest in Season 4 as Rehearsals Begin Ha, 29, who was announced as the love interest for the season in August, told Tudum that the first time she met Thompson was at showrunner Jess Brownell’s house. “I remember Luke standing there with his arms open, just ready for a hug. That was the moment I thought, ‘Oh, okay, now I don’t have to stress about these little things anymore. I can just really focus on the onscreen connection with him.'” Leung will play Lady Araminta Gun, mother to Mao’s Rosamund Li and Wei’s Posy Li, who “feels pressured” to “marry off” one of her daughters this season. “Beautiful, vain and eager” Rosamund “has her eye on Benedict Bridgerton”, while the “much kinder” Posi “rarely” gets noticed. Aside from a few new faces, the majority of the Bridgerton cast will be back to reprise their roles, with Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Bridgerton) and Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton) both confirmed to be returning, as well as Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton) and Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton), Hannah Dodd (Francesca Stirling), Victor Alli (Lord John Stirling) and Masali Baduza (Michaela Stirling), also returning, along with fan favourites Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte) and Polly Walker (Portia Featherington).
However, fans have noticed that while Jonathan Bailey has been confirmed to reprise his role as Anthony Bridgerton, his on-screen wife, Simone Ashley, is not part of the confirmed cast.
A source told PEOPLE that the actress “loves the Bridgerton family and her cast and would be happy to return at any time if the story allows.”
