Virgin River Season 6 Gets Surprise Netflix Release Date, First-Look Images Revealed

Virgin River has received a surprise release date on Netflix, as new first-look images reveal what to expect from the drama’s latest season. Virgin River season 6 was confirmed in May 2023, prior to the release of season 5, confirming the romantic drama of the small, Northern Californian town would continue. Filming for season 6 began in February 2024, wrapping at the end of May. While a definitive release window for the 10-episode season wasn’t given at the time, its filming window indicated the show might not come out until 2025.

Now, Deadline has released a series of new images from Virigin River season 6, while also confirming the 10-episode entry will come to Netflix on December 19, 2024. The images tease what to anticipate, with the most prominent featuring Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) standing at home together, looking serious. A similar pose is struck by Muriel (Teryl Rothery) and Cameron (Mark Ghanimé), who are standing outside together. Happier-looking pairings include Mike (Marco Grazzini) and Brie (Zibby Allen) smiling at one another, while Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) look happy while petting a horse.

In addition are Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Kaia (Kandyse McClue) smiling at one another inside the restaurant, while Denny (Kai Bradbury) and a very pregnant Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) can be seen sitting in a booth together. The final image teases Dan (Benjamin Hollingswoth) speaking to someone at a bar, although it’s unclear who she is due to only the back of her head being shown. What Virigin River Season 6’s Release Date & New Images Say About The Drama
Plenty Of New Developments Are About To Happen Quickly

The release date for the romantic drama’s newest season comes thirteen months after the end of Virgin River season 5, whose last two episodes were released on November 30, 2023. Elements of those final episodes will come into play with season 6, as showrunner Patrick Sean Smith previously confirmed Mel’s biological father, Everett (John Allen Nelson), will have an important role in the new episodes. This will include flashbacks of a younger Everett (Callum Kerr) and Sarah (Jessica Rothe) in the 1970s, setting up a Virgin River prequel series currently in the works.

Alongside Mel’s relationship with Jack and her familial ties, the new season will also focus on plenty of other important storylines. This includes Cameron and Muriel rethinking their relationship, alongside a potentially devastating fate for Preacher after Wes’ (Steve Bacic) body is identified. Happier storylines include Lizzie’s pregnancy and Doc’s medical trial, the latter of which Smith previously revealed would have a worthwhile ending following his proposal to Hope last season. This multitude of relationship stories indicate season 6 could be the show’s most eventful in quite some time.
