“Arsema Thomas Returns to the Race with a Challenging Queer Role”Bridgerton is on board… listen up!
Arsema Thomas rose to fame when she played Lady Agatha Danbury in Netflix’s hit series Queen Charlotte. Now, the outspoken actress is starring in the brand new film She Taught Love.
Thomas’ character Mali falls in love with a troubled man at a very sensitive time in her life. Although She Taught Love centers on a straight couple, the film’s core message of forgiveness and true love is meant for all audiences.
“I just hope that people can connect with the universal aspects of the story. Even though it’s a straight couple, the love is built on respect. I think that’s something that’s in all the beautiful relationships that we hope for and dream about,” Thomas told PRIDE.
As she continues to build her profile in Hollywood, Thomas is now looking for a gay lead role in her next big project.
Thomas uses she/they pronouns, so it would be a huge personal and professional milestone to represent her community on a large scale. Plus, her She Taught Love co-star Taissa Farmiga is also hoping to tackle a gay character in the near future.
“Honestly, I would love to play a gay woman in a contemporary story. That would be the ideal role at this point in my life,” Farmiga said.
“I’m really going to keep it that way. Should we do a movie together?! That’s what I’m saying. Our team is going to talk,” Thomas added.
She Taught Love is currently playing in select theaters and streaming on Hulu. To watch the full interview, watch the video at the top of the page.
