Blue Bloods’ Tom Selleck teases return to another iconic character after show ends – but not who you think
Tom Selleck has played Frank Reagan in every episode of Blue Bloods since it first premiered in 2010 but is now looking at other projects after the show was cancelled
Tom Selleck, the leading man of Blue Bloods, has been contemplating his career’s next steps as CBS’s popular police drama is drawing to a close.
For more than ten years, the former Magnum PI star has played the role of Frank Reagan, the head of a family of cops, in all 14 seasons of the successful series.
Fans were heartbroken when it was announced that the upcoming season, set to premiere later this month, would be the show’s final one.
However, Tom isn’t ready to say goodbye to television after wrapping up the last eight episodes of Blue Bloods.
He recently hinted at reprising a beloved character he played before taking on the role of Frank – and it’s not Thomas Magnum, reports the Express.
Five years prior to the 2010 premiere of Blue Bloods, he starred in the TV crime thriller Jesse Stone: Stone Cold as the eponymous character, a small-town police chief.
Tom continued to star in nine TV movies based on the popular novels by Robert B Parker, which follow the chief as he solves cases in his fictional New England town of Paradise, Massachusetts.
The actor also co-wrote several films in the series and received an Emmy Award nomination for 2007’s Jesse Stone: Sea Change, making it a role dear to his heart
He recently disclosed that he’s considering returning to the series, although he admitted, “It looks like now I might have to write [the script].”
However, he did mention in an interview with TV Insider, “It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it.
“Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later.”
For now, Tom has no new gigs lined up, but the 79-year-old legend assured fans he’s not hitting the brakes anytime soon.
“I need to regroup [after Blue Bloods],” he said. “I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing I’m going to keep working.”
With his iconic 14-year run on Blue Bloods, Tom remains a beloved figure on the small screen, and there’s no doubt his legion of fans will be eager to see what he does next after the Reagans’ last Friday dinner scene.
The second part of season 14 is set to premiere in just over a week, with the series finale anticipated to air before the end of 2024.
