SEAL Team’s David Boreanaz Shares Emotional Post With Co-Star A.J. Buckley After Latest Episode, and I’m Getting Emotional

Spoilers Ahead for SEAL Team Season 7, Episode 9, “The Sea and the Hills.” Read at your own risk!

The penultimate episode of SEAL Team set up a tense finale to air on the 2024 TV schedule. That’s saying a lot, since there were a lot of emotions all over the place. It’s hard to know how this military drama will wrap up the main characters’ stories and who might not survive. But that aside, before the finale and immediately after the latest episode, David Boreanaz shared an emotional post with co-star A.J. Buckley. And, yes, I’m getting emotional.

In “The Sea and the Hills,” Bravo prepares to embark on their final mission as a full team, when David Boreanaz’s Jason is called away on a mission of his own: assassinating Ross Curtis, the man who robbed the United States. During his time with the U.S. Army Special Forces, Curtis was in Honduras in 2004 and trained with Honduran soldiers, including fentanyl drug trafficking leader Ramon Nazario. So Bravo is once again split up, unsure if the team will ever see their fearless leader again. After the episode premiered, Boreanaz took to Instagram to share a sweet photo of him and A.J. Buckley hugging. Not only does it symbolize Jason and Sonny saying goodbye, but Boreanaz and Buckley also symbolically part ways: Seeing the two of them hug is sweet and enough to make one emotional. It’s even more poignant when you consider that this could be one of the last times these two stars are together on set, if not the last time they film together.

It’s disappointing that the series finale will separate Jason and Bravo, but the decision to tell that story makes the stakes that much higher. Not only are both missions dangerous, but whoever survives could face a lot of internal conflict if their co-workers die. With that in mind, the final hug between Jason and Sonny becomes that much more surreal and something I don’t need to think about, at least not right now.

It seems like David Boreanaz can’t stop teasing what could happen in the series finale. He recently teased the final scene of the series, and it features Jason dressed in full hazmat gear, head to toe, ready as ever for whatever mission he’s embarking on. Now, with the finale less than a week away, things are getting a lot more real, and I wish they weren’t.

While fans are still mourning the death of Max Thieriot’s Clay Spenser, as well as Bravo, it’s very likely that at least one member of the team won’t survive the series finale. And, if I may guess, there’s a good chance that someone will be Jason. Hopefully, in a week, I won’t be crying over that reason again when I look back at this hug photo.

It’ll be interesting and heartwarming to see how SEAL Team ends after seven seasons. I also wouldn’t be surprised if David Boreanaz and the rest of the cast share more emotional posts in the coming days. The final season, which has been a hit on the streaming service, will come to an end when the series finale premieres on Sunday, October 6 for Paramount+ subscribers.
