‘Tracker Showrunner Explains How This Character’s Absence Will Affect Season 2
The highly anticipated season 2 of TrackerSeason 2 is less than a month away, and excitement is running high. However, when the series returns to CBS on October 13, it will be without one of its main cast members from its first run. Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin, will not be returning as a series regular. Teddi’s role on the series is one of Colter Shaw’s supporting handlers, played by This Is Us alum Justin Hartley. The character’s absence from the upcoming season has prompted the showrunner to offer an explanation.

Weigert is an Emmy-nominated actress, recognized for her roles in the 2022 horror film Smile, Deadwood, and Big Little Lies. While the show didn’t offer an explanation for her departure, the series did reveal that Teddi’s wife Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany) will remain a part of Colter’s group. Tracker showrunner Elwood Reid revealed to Entertainment Weekly in a preview of the upcoming season that to explain Weigert’s absence from the show, Teddi and Velma have broken up. Reid also revealed that Velma will also have to shoulder the emotional baggage of the breakup in the new season, saying, “[Velma] and Teddy broke up. Velma is struggling with what it means to be abandoned in some way, and she’s going to work through that on her own.” Previous previews for the upcoming season have revealed that with Teddi gone, Fiona Rene’s Reenie will step in and team up with Velma. Reid teased that Velma will be “taking on a very interesting role with something that was hinted at with the character of Reenie in the last few episodes” of the first season. Now, the showrunner has added more about the upcoming storyline for the two characters: “Both of these women, as they go through some things in their lives, are going to be able to lean on each other and kind of freak each other out.”

Tracker is known for the unique cases that Hartley’s Colter Shaw has to solve, and the new season is no different. CBS Entertainment recently updated viewers on what they can expect from the world-famous revenant, and he’s right there in the thick of it.

“In the season 2 premiere, while investigating the strange disappearance of a missing family whose car is found abandoned on the side of a road in the Arkansas backwoods, Colter makes a shocking discovery about his mother’s past that leads him into the world of organized crime. Additionally, Reenie opens her new law firm and enlists Velma’s help in setting it up.”
