‘Yellowstone’ Fans Debate Massive Plot Holes
“Yellowstone” fans believe they’ve found the biggest plot holes in the popular series.
The neo-Western series from Taylor Sheridan has been a monster hit since its 2018 premiere, and it has just the rest of season five before it’s over for good.
It’s certainly been a wild ride. As a big fan, I’ve enjoyed every moment of the series, but viewers can also admit that there are a few holes in it from time to time.
Fans on Reddit believe they’ve found the biggest one yet.
“Yellowstone” viewers discuss massive plot hole.
A viral Reddit thread recently popped up discussing one of the most interesting/mind-boggling moments in the history of the show:
The bomb being placed in a plane in season two.
The Duttons schemed up a plan to put a bomb in the Beck brothers’ plane and blow it up over reservation land. In theory, the assassination would take out their enemies and make it hard – if not downright impossible -to investigate.
However, the plan never unfolded, the plane was never used, and the moment really never made sense to begin with. The Duttons are going from being ranchers to blowing planes out of the sky? Seems like a stretch.
– That was so sh*t. I thought that when they kidnapped Tate they would take him on the plane and then they would need to work out how to not blow up.
– Dinosaur bones will forever be my #1.
– This isn’t even a plot hole. They picked a meeting point where the plane would have to fly over the ranch. The assumption here is that it would be triggered from the ground. Since the Becks took Tate the bomb was no longer an option. With the death of the Becks there’s no need for the plane bomb. Much bigger plot hole are: Jimmy leaving the ranch alive, Rip getting a marriage certificate/never having to produce ID, Beth knowing where to meet Jamie but not knowing about the train station, Jamie never having seen his birth certificate before/ birth certificate having his birth parents on it.
– Lmao. Beth was so surprised to find out about the train station but somehow got there before Jamie did when Jamie went to dump a body.
– I don’t remember his name, and he may be part of your list but the real estate guy that was fly fishing in a creek? Rip came out of the wood line with a briefcase loaded with a live water moccasin. Rip opened the case, and the snake leaped out, striking the man in the face, killing him instantly. Not only can it take hours or days to die from snake venom, if they die at all, the man was never missed, unless I missed it, and Rip just left him there. A search party never arrived like with the wolf collars.
– Don’t worry about the plane, it eloped with the helicopter and they flew off into the sunset to never be heard from again.
– The massive attack on the Duttons (John gets shot, Kayce gets ambushed, the ranch gets attacked, and Beth’s office gets bombed) is lacking content. Rip finds John and meets the helicopter to medivac him out (takes place in the daylight). Rip goes to the ranch and it is nighttime. Lloyd tells him that the cabin is burning. Rip never once mentions Beth. Doesn’t try to contact her to tell her that her father is shot, doesn’t try to warn her that she may be attacked.
– Oh here is another that drives me crazy. The girls were kicked out of the bunkhouse. But none of them leave the bunkhouse.
And this guy did a plot hole breakdown by season:
Let me consult the chart I started a few years ago. I never finished it, but here’s what I did so far —
Season One: (1) Senator’s promise of looking into deaths when Dutton took back his cattle; (2) Kayce telling his old C.O. he was returning to service; (3) The death of the Medical Examiner; (4) Beth being introduced to politicians so she could run for office; (5) Rerouting the river; (6) Dinosaur bones; (7) Disappearance of/Fred to the Train Station.
Season Two: (1) Bomb in plane; (2) – (6) Deaths of Jason, two guys who attacked Beth, numerous militia folks, Malcolm & Teal Beck, Dan Jenkins, the 9-fingered casino dealer, the lone guard in the roadside guard shack, Sarah Nguyen the reporter Jamie killed — no one missed these people?
Season Three: (1) Cassidy Reid’s sudden departure to D.C. (the actress married into the Walmart clan and never has to work again); (2) The rancher whose daughter was attacked and told Jamie he owed him a favor; Willa Hayes.
Season Four: (1) The woman shot on the roadside and her son; (2) Death/disappearance of Roarke; (3) Caroline’s contract offer to Rainwater to fund the building of the casino; (4) The bones and “sacred” at the construction site; (5) Death/disappearance of Jesse Spears/Checkers.
Don’t know if I’ll ever get around to finishing all the breakdown charts I started. Since the show isn’t long for this world, I don’t quite see the point of continuing to dedicate hours and hours to rewatching and counting everything (f-bombs, repeated phrases, funny dialog, survived injuries, body counts).
Honestly, I’m not even mad about all the debates about plot holes. It’s stuff like this that makes TV fun and enjoyable. Embrace the carnage and debates.
Honestly, I don’t have a problem with any of these plot holes being floated. Technically, I’m not even sure the plane one is a plot hole. It just never unfolded. Stupid and unnecessary? Yes. Plot hole? That’s debatable. I guess there’s now just a private jet in the “Yellowstone” universe with a bomb sitting in it.
