The actress, who plays Queen Charlotte, also teased the second half of season 3 dropping on Netflix on June 13
Golda Rosheuvel is bringing the Regency era slay as Bridgerton’s Queen Charlotte!
On Tuesday, June 4, the British actress, 54, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the inaugural Gotham TV Awards at Cipriani in New York where she shared the secrets behind her buzz-worthy season three swan wig.
“I think we have to speak about the swan wig,” Rosheuvel tells PEOPLE when asked about her favorite looks from the Netflix hit series thus far.
“I mean, that’s like a genius moment of beautiful crafting, storytelling,” she adds, mentioning one of the show’s hairstylists, Erika Ökvist.
According to Rosheuvel, the jaw-dropping larger-than-life hairpiece, which included a motorized swan moving about Queen Charlotte’s luscious locks, was no easy feat!
“That took two years in the making for it to all be signed off,” the actress explains. “‘Cause it’s certain departments that have to be involved in making that. There’s a battery pack that has to be made, there’s wires that have to be connected.”
Discussing Ökvist’s vision, Rosheuvel adds, “She always wanted to make a wig with machinery, but what that was evolved through the two years, and we eventually ended up with what you see onscreen.”
Luckily for Rosheuvel, her fit for a queen look was easy for the star to pull off.
“It’s not that heavy,” she says with a smile. Rosheuvel credits the lightweight design to Ökvist’s brilliant mind, stating that “the mechanism isn’t in the wig.”
She admits she wasn’t so lucky with some of her past looks: “Some of them are very heavy.”
While discussing what’s to come, Rosheuvel tells PEOPLE, “I think there’s going to be some triumphant moments, and I think there’s going to be some revealing moments.”
She adds, “And I think a lot will come out to empower the queen and many more of the characters in the show.”
Rosheuvel did, however, speak on how her role of Queen Charlotte was a good bridge between the seasons, saying fans were able to get the “back stories” of their favorite characters.
Earlier in the day, the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, stopped by Today where she was also careful not to give any spoilers.
“We’re very secretive about it but I will say it is sexy and surprising in many ways,” the Emmy-nominated screenwriter said. “And also, I cried at the end, I found it very moving — and I don’t always cry. So I really go into it.”
She added the remaining episodes of the third season are “a beautiful story.”
The first part of Bridgerton season 3 is streaming on Netflix, with part two arriving on June 13.
