Chicago PD Season 12 Sets Up a Major Voight Change That Could Change the Future of Intelligence
NBC’s first trailer for Chicago PD season 12 teases an exciting new storyline for Hank Voight that will of course change his life, but it will also likely affect the Intelligence Unit. After Hailey Upton left in the Chicago PD season 11 finale, there are a lot of changes in store for Intelligence. Upton’s replacement (Toya Turner’s Kiana Cook) will be in the 21st District, and the others will have to learn to adapt without Tracy Spiridakos’ character and learn to work with Cook, a patrol officer. Meanwhile, Voight’s personal life is also expected to change (based on the season 12 trailer).

Unfortunately, not much is known about the plot of Chicago PD season 12. Yes, Upton has left and Cook has joined the 21st Precinct, but aside from the cast changes, most of the characters’ story developments in the upcoming episodes remain a mystery. NBC’s teaser trailer for Chicago PD season 12, Chicago Fire season 13, and Chicago Med season 10 gives fans a glimpse of what they can expect. While the teaser is just a teaser, one of the scenes in the video shows the return of a character who will have a significant impact on Voight’s storyline in Chicago PD season 12. One Chicago’s Instagram posted a 30-second teaser previewing Chicago PD season 12, Chicago Fire season 13, and Chicago Med season 10, and the video reveals that Assistant State Attorney Nina Chapman, played by Sara Bues, will be returning to the police procedural series. Chapman debuted in the season 9 finale, where she and Voight didn’t get off to a great start. However, Voight and Chapman’s relationship has grown over time and it seems like they’ll continue to grow closer in season 12, suggesting that a romance between the two characters is a very real possibility.

The One Chicago TV trailer begins with Chapman asking Voight, “How much longer are you going to be solving cases?” He replies, “I’m a cop. I’m doing my job.” Chapman then says, “You almost died in the basement,” to which Voight replies, “But I didn’t die. I’m still here.” Throughout the trailer, Voight and Chapman are the only representatives of the Chicago Police Department. So it’s safe to assume that Chapman will play a big role in Voight’s storyline in season 12. The focus on these two characters also suggests that Voight will have a big part to play.

With their growing relationship and chemistry, it was only a matter of time before the CPD officially made Chapman Voight’s love interest, and the trailer makes it seem like a romance between the two will happen, not later.

Voight and Chapman have built a strong working relationship, but over time, their relationship has become more personal. Chapman is clearly worried about Voight in the trailer, and she was quite concerned when he was kidnapped in the season 11 finale of CPD. With their growing relationship and chemistry, it was only a matter of time before the CPD officially made Chapman Voight’s love interest, and the trailer makes it seem like a romance between the two will happen, not later.

Since neither Voight nor the Intelligence Unit have had to deal with Voight’s dating life, it will be interesting to see how people react if and when he and Chapman become closer in season 12 of CPD. The fact that Chapman is an Assistant State Attorney doesn’t help matters either. Anyone who’s a fan of the One Chicago universe knows that the Intelligence Unit doesn’t exactly play by the rules. However, if Voight were to become involved with an ASA, conflicts regarding his approach to law enforcement would certainly arise.

Chapman is well aware of Voight’s off-the-books tendencies. However, if their romantic relationship were to change, it would certainly affect Voight’s position within the Intelligence Unit and the unit’s approach to cases. Of course, this is all speculation. However, it makes sense given Chapman and Voight’s scene in the One Chicago trailer and the duo’s history together. Voight and Chapman have built trust, but she’s the only one who isn’t afraid to criticize him, which could help or hurt him in the upcoming episodes.

While Voight is a main character on Chicago PD, he hasn’t had much of a diverse personal story since the show began. So, having Voight get a love interest would do wonders not only for his character but for NBC’s police procedural series. A potential romance between Voight and Chapman could breathe life into the show.

Plus, it’s been a while since Chicago PD took the time to introduce and develop a complex and compelling love story. With Upton and Halstead gone, a couple is in need
