Comedian Kate Micucci has announced she is cancer free after undergoing a successful surgery for lung cancer. The actor, best known for roles on television series such as “The Big Bang Theory” and in films like “The Little Hours,” shocked fans earlier this month when she revealed she had lung cancer despite not having a history with smoking.
“Hey everyone! I just wanted to thank you all so much for the good wishes and all the love that I have received this past week,” Micucci said in a health update published on her TikTok profile. “It meant so much to me and really came at a time that I really needed it so thank you. I have great news, which is that I am cancer free!”
“The surgery last week went great,” she continued. “All the reports came back that it worked. I don’t need to do any other treatment. So big thank you to all my doctors and nurses and everyone that took just really great care of me. And thanks to figuring it out early because I am very, very lucky and I know that. I’m just really grateful that things worked out as they did. I’m feeling really good today and I’m honestly just so excited and truly grateful. So thank you all for all the prayers and wishes. I’m just glad I can report some good news to you.”
Micucci is widely known among sitcom fans were her role as Raj’s love interest Lucy on three seasons of “The Big Bang Theory.” She debuted during the show’s sixth season. Her additional sitcom work includes “‘Till Death,” “Raising Hope” and “Scrubs.” Micucci has also had voice roles in shows such as “Scooby-Doo” and “Steven’s Universe,” plus she makes up the folk comedy duo “Garfunkel and Oats” with Riki Lindhome.
In her original announcement, Micucci posted a TikTok video from the hospital and told fans that she had just had lung cancer surgery the day prior.
“They caught it really early,” the comedian said at the time. “It’s really weird, because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life so, uh, you know, it was a surprise. But also I guess, also, it happens and so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out, I’m all good.”
