From the world of medicine to an adventure filled with a ton of thrills, Freddie Highmore is officially ready for his next TV project.
The actor’s hit ABC drama The Good Doctor ended after seven seasons back in May, but he’s keeping busy thanks to an announcement made by Deadline on August 22. According to the outlet, Freddie will be heading to Amazon Prime Video to star in a new series called The Assassin, with a script that will be written by Harry and Jack Williams. The show will feature six, one hour-long episodes and will see Freddie as one of its multiple executive producers.
But Freddie isn’t alone on this adventure. Starring alongside Keeley Hawes, the publication writes the two will play Julie and Edward, an estranged mother-son duo who find themselves in a tense reunion on a secluded Greek island. While Edward is visiting from his native England, he is looking for some answers about his paternity. When Edward does finally ask Julie for the truth, it sends the two on the run as Julie’s secret past eventually catches up to her.
“From the moment Harry and Jack shared their vision for The Assassin, we knew that it would resonate perfectly with our audience,” said Hannah Blyth, head of TV for Amazon Prime Video UK. “The Assassin promises to deliver a high-stakes thriller with a dynamic mother-son relationship at its core, packed with twists and turns that will keep our audience hooked from start to finish. We can’t wait for our customers to immerse themselves in this gripping new series.”
As for who else will be joining Freddie on this new project, a plethora of actors are slated to appear throughout.
Alongside Freddie and Keeley, Gina Gershon, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jack Davenport, Alan Dale, Gerald Kyd, Devon Terrell, Richard Dormer and David Dencik are all expected to play different characters involved with Julie and Edward’s adventures as they flee from danger all over the globe.
And while there’s no current release date for The Assassin, it’s only fair that we eagerly wait to see what Freddie has in store for us. After all, he already teased to Entertainment Tonight in May how he’s ready to try something different after spending seven years playing Dr. Shaun Murphy on The Good Doctor.
“It’s funny, looking back to the beginning of The Good Doctor. I read the script three days after Bates Motel ended, and then was sitting down with [The Good Doctor creator] David Shore and suddenly was doing the pilot,” he said in a clip posted on TikTok. “I think if that’s taught me anything, it’s that you never really know what’s next. That you just have to be open and excited for whatever that may be.”
