As if I wasn’t excited enough already for the Young Sheldon spinoff, the director has announced that Dolly Parton might be making a guest appearance as Mady’s grandma and I’m freaking out.
If there’s one thing that can instantly elevate a TV series to legendary status it’s the appearance of Miss Parton. Plus I already know her and Meemaw would be besties and I need to see their wholesome dynamic.
Director of the Young Sheldon spinoff Chuck Lorre told Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of Dolly Parton making a cameo in the show, revealing: “We had Ms. Reba McEntire on [Young Sheldon], and I just really, really, really feel like we need to have Dolly Parton on there. She could be Mandy’s grandmother or something. We ain’t got that role yet.”
Reba starred in seasons three to five of Young Sheldon in the role of June, who was Dale’s ex-wife. After Dale and Meemaw started dating there was some rivalry between Meemaw and June, but they soon grew to be very close friends.
In fact, Annie Potts who plays Meemaw has admitted that she modelled Meemaw’s character off of Dolly Parton, revealing: “I have to say I took inspiration from Dolly Parton in Steel Magnolias, which also happened in 1989, and I thought, ‘Yeah, she looks a bit like that.’”
