Tracker Season 2 Plot Update Reveals Secret About Colter’s Father and Brothers’ Reunion

A new plot update for Tracker Season 2 provides more details about a secret involving Colter’s father and previews Russell’s return as the brother. While the CBS action drama follows Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw as a lone wolf who helps people find their loved ones in exchange for money, a larger mystery was revealed in the show’s first season regarding who killed Colter’s father, Ashton. That question becomes more complicated heading into Tracker Season 2 as Ashton’s past may not be what it seems.

In comments for Entertainment Weekly, previewing the Tracker Season 2 premiere on Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, showrunner Elwood Reid teased that a secret will be revealed regarding Colter and Russell’s fathers. It involves a memory of Ashton that Russell has, but Colter doesn’t. Read the quote below: “[Russell] comes out at the top of his game. There’s a secret that’s revealed about their father in the first episode that both brothers know. There’s a memory that you’ll find that Colter doesn’t have, and his brother does have about Colter and their father.” Colter Shaw has a complicated family history, starting one night in 2003. Without his wife there, Ashton went on the run. He was driven by his paranoia, or at least that’s how Colter remembers it. In any case, Russell followed Ashton, and Colter found their father dead an hour later. For a long time, Colter believed that Russell had pushed their father to his death, but Russell denied it. With that tense backdrop, the brothers made up when Russell appeared in season 1, episode 12. The brothers even worked on a case together, joking about Russell’s less-than-impressive courtship methods. It’s been confirmed that Russell will return in the second episode of Tracker season 2, with the possibility of more appearances depending on the plot and the availability of actor Jensen Ackles. But with Russell confirmed to appear in more than one episode, the mystery of Ashton’s death becomes more important, thanks to the revelations in the Tracker season 1 finale. The hit show, based on Jeffrey Deaver’s The Never Game novels and created by Ben H. Winters, ended its first season with the revelation that Ashton had been having an affair. It hinted that Colter’s mother was a suspect in his murder. But in any case, there’s more to come for the rest of Tracker’s supporting characters. That’s especially true with the sudden and inexplicable departure of original cast member Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin.
