Chicago Fire’s Boden’s Back to the Future Timeline Clarified by Showrunner
Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman has revealed when to expect former Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) to return, explaining when he will next appear. Season 12 of the firefighting drama ended with the veteran Firehouse 51 Chief making the difficult decision to run for Deputy Chief, knowing that his leadership would benefit the entire police department. However, this resulted in him having to step down from his position on the main cast, with Walker leaving Chicago Fire as a main cast member in season 13. However, it’s unclear whether that means he won’t be appearing in future episodes.
However, speaking to TV Insider, Newman teased Boden’s return to Chicago Fire, confirming that he will be making a return appearance after leaving his role as a main cast member in season 12. However, the showrunner has said that he won’t be appearing immediately, meaning that his new position as Deputy Chief of Police won’t be explored in the first episodes of the upcoming season 13. Check out what Newman had to say below: We have a mantra. We say once part of 51, always part of 51. That’s especially true for Boden because he’s still in CFD. So yes, we do plan on seeing him, although not from the get-go. Boden has been on the procedural drama since season 1, his presence a constant and familiar part of the show despite the constant change of new and departing cast members over the years. His return in Chicago Fire season 13 suggests that there could be a storyline revolving around his new role as Deputy Commissioner, something that could put him in the same room as his old friends at Firehouse 51. However, it’s unlikely that he’ll appear in multiple episodes, as Dermot Mulroney has been cast as Dom Pascal, the new Chief of his old Firehouse. With Boden returning to the series in a recurring role, the show could provide more insight into how his leadership has impacted firefighting within the Chicago Fire Department. Given the significance of his departure from the main cast, the show will likely focus on all the positives he brings to the various fire stations across the city. While his return may not be a scene where he puts out any fires with his previous team, it could highlight the important aspects of his new position and how it impacts his friends despite his absence from the screen.
While Boden’s replacement in Chicago Fire season 13 will create a new dynamic for the entire team, we’re glad to know that the former Chief will still be around in upcoming episodes. While his continued presence will be missed, seeing how his new job impacts him and his work fighting fires across Chicago will provide a positive direction for his character. While it’s unclear how big his recurring role will be, seeing him in his new position will be satisfying to watch.
