The Young Sheldon spinoff featuring Georgie and Mandy gets an exciting update from CBS. Just before Young Sheldon‘s final season premiered, it was reported that Chuck Lorre and his team were developing another offshoot separate from The Big Bang Theory expansion show that he was previously working on. Instead, the new endeavor would be a continuation of the Coopers’ story in Texas beyond Sheldon’s move to California and George’s death. Now, the new series takes a major step forward, securing the future of the Young Sheldon franchise on CBS.
Per Deadline, Georgie and Mandy’s Young Sheldon spinoff officially moves forward on CBS. The multi-cam series is slated to premiere sometime in the 2024-2025 season and will focus on the couple raising “their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage.” Read the statements of the president of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, and series co-creators, Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Steve Holland below:
Amy Reisenbach : “It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy. Chuck and both Steves have done a masterful job developing these characters and entertaining generations of fans with relatable, heartwarming stories brought to life by Montana and Emily. We eagerly look forward to the next chapter in this beloved universe.”
Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland: “From the Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon , the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us. We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy.”
Will Other Young Sheldon Characters Appear In The Georgie And Mandy Spinoff?
& Why One Actor Has Already Said They Might Not
It’s currently uncertain when the shortened season 7 will end, but it is expected to function as the launching pad for Georgie and Mandy’s spinoff as the show transitions Sheldon to his life in California. Per the premise, the Young Sheldon characters will remain in Texas, which means that aside from the boy genius and George, considering his death, everyone in the sitcom can be involved in the new series. At the very least, The Big Bang Theory canon mandates that Mary and Missy could feature in it.
There is no guarantee that Lorre and his team will strictly adhere to the established continuity. As seen in Young Sheldon, they tend to cherry-pick plots from The Big Bang Theory, with the creatives explaining that they won’t be beholden to every single detail revealed in the mothership series. For example, Georgie claimed that after George died and Sheldon moved out, he had to take care of both his mom and sister because they were in no capacity to function on the heels of the tragedy.
After Sheldon Cooper debuted in The Big Bang Theory, his whole family became the center of storytelling for the CBS prequel comedy, Young Sheldon.
Admittedly, it seems big enough to be tackled for the offshoot, but unless there’s official confirmation, the idea may not transpire. Raegan Revord seemingly squashed the possibility of Missy appearing in the George and Mandy offshoot. She explained that not only has she not been contacted about it, but she’s also ready to move on from Young Sheldon. Ultimately, however, it will boil down to the story that Lorre and his team are telling if there will be other Coopers in the spinoff.
