After Everything is always the last film in the saga, but what ending did Hardin and Tessa deserve?
After: Para Siempre will hit movie theaters this month, and will be the closing of the story of Tessa Young and Hardin Scott who lived a toxic and addictive romance. But what if we could give it another ending?
If you have read the After saga, by the writer Anna Todd, you know that the romance of Tessa and Hardin (Hessa) is one of the most toxic in youth literature… but you will surely be there at the cinema to see the end in Forever. However, since it was born from a fanfic and had many red flag situations, it would not be bad to imagine better fates for this pair of characters.

As you may remember, in 2013, already 10 years ago!, Anna Todd began writing a story on the Wattpad app, with a character inspired by Harry Styles and his friends in the rest of the members of One Direction, Louis, Niall, Liam and Zayn. But her imagination led her to write one of the most loved-hated characters and one of the most toxic romances that have been read in youth literature. Yes, Hardin Scott will be a very handsome boy, but not exactly the ideal boyfriend model. And yet, the university student Tessa fell flat, then she suffered a lot in her relationship but love was stronger, and we already know the end of the novels.
But, this September 14, when the fifth and final film, After: Para Siempre, hits theaters in Mexico, the film will see how close the adaptation is to the big screen. The synopsis tells us that Hardin goes to Portugal to apologize to Natalie, but he gets into trouble. And although he already has a career as a writer, he can’t get over the fact that Tessa, her great love, has told him to move on with her life without her.
We still don’t know if the book with Hessa will happen, we won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t read it… so let’s wait for the theatrical release.
What if Hessa had another ending?
And precisely thinking about that, what would have been the ideal ending for Tessa and the right one for Hardin? Here are some suggestions:
1.Tessa stays with Landon Gibson… even though he is her best friend and Hardin’s half-brother. But Landon is cute, a better person and mature, just what she needs after such a stormy relationship. And Hardin has another reason to write another novel that will sell millions of copies.
2.Hardin remains the dog with two cakes after having been a jerk. Zaz! Yes, because Natalie asks him to leave and so does Tessa. And besides, what if Tessa has an epiphany and she decides that she doesn’t need a man to be happy?
3.After getting into trouble in Portugal, and even going to jail, Hardin realizes that he has done wrong. Yes finally! Then, when he leaves, he runs to sincerely apologize to Tessa for having been such a nightmare boyfriend and leaves, leaving her alone. It is not a happy ending because they love each other, but their courtship has been an example of what should not happen or be allowed.
4.What if you decide to separate forever because your relationship has been more bad than good, and then you go to therapy separately? This way, when they have a partner again they won’t repeat the same patterns… especially Hardin.
