Robert Pattinson says he once slept and ate on an inflatable boat for six months because he had no other furniture.
In an interview with Architectural Digest about an ear-shaped sofa he recently designed, the 37-year-old actor recounted the time when he lived with barely any furniture.
“There was a time when the only piece of furniture I had for about six months was an inflatable boat that would double as my couch, bed, and dining table,” Pattinson told Architectural Digest.
While he loved it “very much,” the actor admitted that the inflatable boat wasn’t the most comfortable and caused a lot of back problems.
Thankfully, Pattinson’s days of orthopedic pain are now over.
Best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the “Twilight Saga” vampire film series, the actor can now consider himself a furniture designer as well. He just unveiled a white velvet sofa that he helped design.
‘The Crow’ reboot was 16 years in the making. It’s finally out, and critics say it’s ‘tedious’ and ‘unfathomably awful.’
Pattinson’s foray into furniture design came after he wrapped production for 2022’s “The Batman,” in which he stars in the titular role, per AD.
“I started sketching pieces of furniture I thought would make people interact in a playful and informal way,” Pattinson told AD. “They all had disproportionate, oversized elements that were quite fun.”
Thanks to the sofa’s lobe-shaped curves, the actor came to realize that his creation looked a lot like an ear, per AD.
Together with Nicole Gordon, an interior designer he had worked with before, Pattinson brought his sketches to life, per AD.
Pattinson’s sofa is now on display at JF Chen, a furniture store in Los Angeles, per AD. The store is run by renowned furniture dealer Joel Chen, who counts celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and the Olsen twins among his clients.
Six made-to-order pieces of Pattinson’s sofa are also available for sale, although it is unclear how much each costs.
