Things have been rocky for Chenford on The Rookie for a while. Has it all really just come to an end? We take a look at where things could go.
Caution: This post contains major spoilers from The Rookie Season 6, Episode 6.
Thorughout The Rookie Season 6, there have been signs that Chenford would end in tears. We knew that something would come up causing problems, and that’s what we found as Tim Bradford got a blast from the past.
A man he thought had been killed in action wasn’t actually dead. And this was a guy who had illegally killed others during their military career, so Tim knew just how dangerous he was. However, he didn’t initially want to get Lucy messed up in the situation, so he hid a lot from her.
Eventually, he had to tell her, and he got her to lie for him. As everything straightened out, he realized that he could no longer be with Lucy, and he broke up with her at the end of The Rookie Season 6, Episode 6. Is it really over?
Tim thinks he’s doing the right thing on The Rookie
In an interview with TVLine, Eric Winter shared that Tim is spiralling at this point. He is pulling himself away from Lucy in an attempt to protect her, partly from himself, and he thinks he’s done the right thing. He thinks it’s better to break up than risk putting Lucy in a similar situation again.
We’ve seen a few times that when Tim makes a decision, he’s made it. He isn’t one to go back on what he thinks is best, which would suggest that everything is officially done for Chenford. There is no going back for Tim.
Lucy is angry at Tim’s decision
Meanwhile, we have Lucy, who was shocked and angry when Tim broke up with her. It wasn’t just the breakup, but the situation that had unfolded. Tim lied to her and then used that as a reason to break up with her.
After everything the two had been through to get to where they are, it does seem absurd that Tim would do something like this. He has grown a lot throughout the course of six seasons, and then this moment made him take a step back.
This could be it for Chenford in The Rookie
It’s hard to say what the show will end up doing from here. There are only four episodes left of the season, and the show hasn’t been renewed at this point. I think if the series comes to an end with this season, it’s not going to end with Chenford getting back together.
Lucy is going to move forward as she always does. Melissa O’Neil hinted at that in an interview with TV Guide. Meanwhile, Tim thinks that he’s done the right thing, so he won’t take steps to change thing with that in mind.
So, this could be it. Not all relationships do work out. As much as we wanted Chenford to happen and for them to be happy, there are some relationships that seem right but don’t end up working. TV shows need to offer all types of relationships. It’s just annoying as a Chenford fan that this has ended up happening. We’ve waited so long for them for this to happen!
