Young Sheldon fans were left confused after the prequel show cleared up a Big Bang Theory plot hole

In Season Seven, episode four of Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory fans finally get an answer to a mystery they have been wondering about for years.

In the most recent episode, Young Sheldon showed Sheldon’s parents – George and Mary – in the bedroom.

George sat on the bed in his boxers and a t-shirt.

Mary walked into the bedroom in a blonde, braided wig, and an old-timey German woman’s outfit.
“Hello, you handsome American Boy Toy. I am Helga. Do you like what you see?” she asked in a German accent.
After George said they did, they kissed, and then Sheldon came home.

Through the door, he heard his mother say, in an accent, “Are you sure your wife won’t come home?”

“Uh huh. I’m sure,” George responded.
Sheldon heard them through the door and knocked.

When he opened it he heard his dad say, “Oh Helga” and since his mother had a wig on, he didn’t know it was her, so he assumed his father was cheating on his mother.
As young Sheldon walked out the door, the voice over said, “I never talked to my father about what I saw that day, but from then on, I added extra knocks, so people could get their pants on.”

THREE-KNOCK RULE

In Season Ten, episode five of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon explains to Penny why he has the three-knock rule.

And it all stemmed from when he thought his father was having an affair.

His dad died shortly after and he never got to talk about it with him.

The way the story plays out is accurate to what Sheldon told Penny, except he was missing that one key element.

When first brought up in The Big Bang Theory, it was portrayed as this heartbreaking and serious issue.
Young Sheldon toned the “affair” down a lot and made it more comedic.

FANS REACT

For fans of the Big Bang Theory, this was a big moment.

Many of them reacted to the scene on X, formerly Twitter, after it played out.

“IT WASN’T SOMEONE ELSE! IT WAS HIS OWN MOM AND SHELDON, TILL DATE, THINKS HIS DATHER WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR!!!!!!!!! HENCE THE THREE KNOCKS!!!! OH MY GODDDD I’M FREAKING OUTTTT!!” one fan wrote.

“@YoungSheldon very happy about the twist in George’s affair. After all these years in BBT thinking the worst, you’ve put an amazing twist and I loved it. I cried happy tears,” said another.

“The mystery of Sheldon’s knocks is resolved,” added a third.

“I absolutely loved how #youngsheldon dealt with Sheldon’s belief in #thebigbangtheory that he walked in on his dad cheating on his mom. Bravo writers and to Lance Barber and Zoe Perry for the performance,” wrote on X user.
“Great work. I’m so glad George didn’t cheat,” said another.

“All this time?!?!” another simply asked.
