Chicago Fire Boss Gives Bittersweet Update on Severide’s Future at 51
There are a few things we want to see from our favorite characters. When it comes to Chicago Fire season 13, fans want more Severide.

The good news is that fans will get more Severide. Taylor Kinney is joining season 13, Chicago Fire boss Andrea Newman confirmed. The bittersweet news depends on what you want to see from the character.

Severide Will Not Be Promoted in Chicago Fire Season 13 Those hoping to see Severide promoted to Captain in the new season will be disappointed. Newman made it clear to TVLine that that’s not what Severide wants.

Chicago Fire - Season 9

“There’s a lot of politics when you go higher up, and Severide doesn’t care about that. He’s a hands-on guy,” Newman stated.
Fans got to see him take over the running of Firehouse 51 during Boden’s absence in season 12. We knew he had the ability to do it, but not everyone has that ambition. Severide is one of those people who is happy where he is and doesn’t want to deal with the politics that come with being promoted to Captain. We can’t really blame him!
Severide Still Focused on Arson and OFI on Chicago Fire Those who enjoy watching Severide do something he’s so good at will be happy to hear the latest news. Newman confirmed that Severide’s passion still lies in arson and OFI.
He’s focused on what he’s obsessed with, which is arson and OFI, alongside making the team, which he loves,” Newman shared, adding, “So arson is still at the forefront of his mind, the possibility of moving to OFI is always at the forefront of his mind, and all of that comes up. He’s dealing with all of those issues this season.”

It’s funny how long-time fans know that Severide has been trying to avoid going down the arson path for the longest time. He’s just so good that he’s constantly called in to help.

In recent years, Severide has changed his mind. Part of it may be that he doesn’t have to give up Squad 3, which is a different passion. And yes, he’ll still be on Squad 3 in Chicago Fire season 13. However, one thing we’ll see in the upcoming season is Severide considering moving to OFI. That’s going to happen and he’s going to have to make a choice. Could we see Cruz get the chance to take the lieutenant exam and become a lieutenant at Squad 3 when Severide moves to OFI?
