Young Sheldon ended its run with the passing of family patriarch George Cooper, played by Lance Barber. Though the character is gone, Barber was still recently on the set of the upcoming sequel series, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
It was previously revealed that Raegan Revord (Missy Cooper) will be returning for an episode as Missy, the younger sister of Georgie (Montana Jordan), in the spinoff series. On Instagram, Revord shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the spinoff while filming her appearance. One of the photos shared features her alongside both Barber and Jordan. Now sporting gray hair and a beard, Barber is looking very different compared to when fans last saw his character before George’s death at the end of Young Sheldon. The image can be seen here.
Annie Potts reveals Meemaw’s limp in Young Sheldon stems from a real-life accident caused by drunk drivers, sharing a heartfelt plea against drinking.
Barber visiting the set might lead to fan speculation that he was there to film some kind of appearance for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. While a flashback scene seems like a possibility, Barber’s new look makes it more unlikely that he’s on set to make a cameo as George Cooper. Additionally, TVLine reported that Barber was only on the set for a simple visit and is not expected to appear in the series.
Will Lance Barber Have a Secret Cameo in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage?
Even so, it also seems like there’s a chance the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage team might secretly sneak Barber into the show. Notably, the actor already returned to the franchise following his previous character’s death in a totally different role. At the end of Young Sheldon‘s final season, Barber played a mourner attending George’s funeral. With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if a similar cameo happened in the spinoff.
Now that both shows in The Big Bang Theory universe have concluded, which finale do you think was better? The hopefulness of The Big Bang Theory or the sheer emotionality of Young Sheldon?
Meanwhile, Zoe Perry (Mary Cooper) and Annie Potts (Meemaw) are also confirmed to return for on-screen appearances in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Iain Armitage (Sheldon) isn’t confirmed for a cameo at this point, though it’s been teased by producers that he might appear for a holiday-themed episode. Co-starring alongside Montana Jordan as Georgie is Emily Osment as his wife, Mandy, following the couple’s marriage in Young Sheldon. Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones will also star as Mandy’s parents, while Dougie Baldwin is co-starring as Mandy’s brother.
“He’s 19, and he dropped out of high school. How smooth can it be?” series co-creator Chuck Lorre preivously teased to TV Insider about what’s in store for Georgie in the new show. “It’s a bumpy ride, but the bumps are comedy if handled correctly. There’s dramatic moments as well, because they will face inevitable obstacles to staying together.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will be premiering on Thursday, Oct. 17 on CBS.
