Twilight’s Animated TV Reboot Is What the Franchise Needs

An update on the Twilight TV show reveals a major change in the show’s format. Written by Stephanie Meyer, Twilight was first released back in 2005. The vampire novel series was then adapted into a popular film franchise starring Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart. A TV series adaptation of Twilight was announced in April 2023.

Deadline has revealed a change to the upcoming Twilight TV series. According to Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns, the Twilight show will be animated. Burns referred to the series as “an animated series,” and according to Deadline’s sources, that has been the plan from the get-go.

We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.

While the Twilight show’s animated status may indeed have been the plan all along, this is the first time that aspect of the series has been voiced publicly. When the Twilight series was initially announced, it did not yet have a writer or platform attached. All the information given was that it was a “series version” of the Twilight books, suggesting that it would be a small-screen reboot rather than a spinoff storyline. Meyers was also thought to be involved.

The future of the Twilight franchise looks bright. In addition to the animated series, Stephenie Meyer has said she is working on two more novels in the series. A new live-action adaptation has also been discussed.

Since the show’s initial announcement in April 2023, not a lot of concrete progress has been made. No cast has been announced for the Twilight show (which now would be understood as a voice cast rather than live-action). The creative team for the show has also yet to be revealed, including the show’s writers and directors.

While some expressed interest in watching the series, others questioned why Lionsgate would bother to turn Twilight into a TV series.

Twilight fans were already divided on the creation of the reboot show when the news broke. While some expressed interest in watching the series, others questioned why Lionsgate would bother to turn Twilight into a TV series. With the series now being animated, Lionsgate is trying to do something new with Twilight.

The Twilight movies are available to stream on Hulu.
