Robert Pattinson’s New Jennifer Lawrence Movie Delivers The Partnership A $3.3 Billion Franchise Rejected

Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence are in talks to star in a new thriller titled Die, My Love. If both celebrated actors sign on for the project, it would mark the first time in either of their acting careers that they would share a screen together in a feature film. Die, My Love will be directed by Lynne Ramsay, known for her previous directorial work on Joaquin Phoenix’s chilling 2017 thriller You Were Never Really Here and the equally unnerving 2011 psychological thriller We Need to Talk About Kevin starring Tilda Swinton as the concerned mother of a strange teen named Kevin, played by Ezra Miller.

Ramsay has already written the script with Enda Walsh, who recently penned the adapted screenplay for the 2024 Cillian Murphy-led drama Small Things Like These. Per Deadline, “Set in a remote forgotten rural area, the story follows a mother who struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis. It is unknown who Pattinson would play.” Lawrence would presumably play the mother in the above description, which would at face value appear to be one of the most challenging roles of her career. Lawrence is coming off the popularity of her 2023 comedy No Hard Feelings while Pattinson’s latest movie Mickey 17 awaits release in January 2025.

Robert Pattinson & Jennifer Lawrence Could’ve Been The Stars Of Twilight

Per Variety, Jennifer Lawrence auditioned for the lead role of Bella Swan, which would eventually be given to Kristen Stewart, and received a swift rejection. “They turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback. But my life would’ve been totally different. I got ‘Hunger Games’ I think, like, a year later. It was probably after ‘Winter’s Bone.’” While Lawrence starring as Bella Swan would have completely changed the Twilight series and quite possibly the popular movie series as a whole, Lawrence confirms she was never really in the conversation.

With Pattinson starring as Edward Cullen, which launched him into international superstardom, there was once a slight chance that he and Lawrence would have appeared in a film together much sooner than Die, My Love. The complicated off-screen relationship between Pattinson and Stewart, combined with the now-iconic impact that the Twilight films had on pop culture of the 2010s, makes it nearly unfathomable to picture Lawrence in that franchise. Lawrence added, “I was still in a franchise, so I was still trying to counteract the franchise-ness. I’d still be doing that if I was in ‘Twilight.’ But I almost didn’t do ‘Hunger Games’ because ‘Twilight’ had come out and that fandom had happened.”

Die My Love Is A More Exciting Collaboration For Robert Pattinson & Jennifer Lawrence

Die, My Love sounds like a much better use of a Lawrence and Pattinson onscreen team-up, although based on the film’s premise and the director’s track record it will probably not be a lighthearted affair. As big of a franchise as Twilight was and continues to be, its story is limited in scope and is obviously catered towards a younger audience. Die, My Love should be a mature, chilling, and complex narrative that will hopefully have plenty of substance for both experienced actors to work with. Lawrence starred in Darren Aronofsky’s unhinged psychological thriller Mother!, which seems tonally similar to Die, My Love.

Pattinson, on the other hand, has also taken on some darker roles in thrillers such as 2017’s Good Time, directed by the Safdie Brothers of Uncut Gems acclaim. He also stars as a grungy young Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman and the haunted Thomas Howard in Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse. While Pattinson and Lawrence have been celebrated for their franchise-leading personalities, they’ve both grown immensely as dramatic actors with a range as wide as any other A-lister in Hollywood. A Pattinson and Lawrence psychological thriller sounds much better than a rom-com or action flick.

Will Robert Pattinson & Jennifer Lawrence Play A Couple At Last?

While there are no details about Pattinson’s role in Die, My Love as of the time of writing, he is sure to have some type of big part, which could result in him playing the husband of Lawrence’s spiraling protagonist. If they do play a couple in Die, My Love, it would somewhat showcase what they could’ve been like if Lawrence had become Bella Swan in Twilight, although the tone of the upcoming thriller sounds much more intense and real than the vampires and werewolves in the teen fantasy series. Pattinson is also tapped to star alongside Zendaya in the upcoming A24 film The Drama by Dream Scenario director Kristoffer Borgli as production on Die, My Love begins soon.
