Brett’s Big, Sparkling Engagement Ring on Chicago Fire Is Fit for a Queen

Brett’s Big, Sparkling Engagement Ring on Chicago Fire Is Fit for a Queen
A beautiful couple deserves a beautiful engagement ring. When Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) returned to Chicago to propose to his longtime love, Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), he brought along a stunning diamond ring with a large center stone set with a smaller diamond band. “Sylvie Brett, we’re made for each other,” Casey said as he handed her the ring. “Will you make me and our three kids the luckiest family in the world? Marry me.” Of course, Brett said yes.

The proposal came in the final moments of Season 11, and Brett accepted in the Season 12 premiere. But while Chicago Fire fans were happy to see “Brettsey” together forever, it was a bittersweet moment, as their wedding meant Brett would be moving to Portland to be with her new husband.

Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker), Matt Casey ( Jesse Spencer), and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) appear in Season 12 Episode 6 of Chicago Fire.

The ring gets stuck in Brett’s locker, forcing the bride-to-be to share the good news with co-worker and friend Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith). And while the station is sad to lose her, everyone agrees that Brett and Casey are perfect for each other. At the wedding, hardly anyone in the crowd is without tears.

“Sylvie Brett, getting to this place has been the hardest fight of my life,” Casey’s vows begin. “But every moment has been worth it because here we are. You’ve been my harbor in the storm. The most generous and caring person I’ve ever known. And sometimes the most stubborn… We’ve been apart for so long. Now, I promise you that you’ll never be alone. I’ll always be there for you. And this, when we’re together, will be a fire that never goes out.”

In Brett’s vows, she agrees, “As you said, we were meant to be. And we were meant to be a family.”

Why Brett Is a “Hopeless Romantic” on Chicago Fire
The wedding serves as a fitting farewell for the characters and cast, and is the final episode of Killmer. “What I love about Sylvie is her resilience,” the actress told NBC Insider at the time. “The first responders that we represent, they’ve gone through a lot of loss, a lot of trauma, and then they come back to do more because they believe in what they’re doing.”

She continued, “I feel like the character of Sylvie really embodies that the most in that, yes, she’s a hopeless romantic, but she always continues to believe the best in people… She’s not weighed down too much by everything that she’s seen and all the loss that she’s experienced. And that’s a quality that I want to carry with me.”
