Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly gives update on preparation for return to Beth role
“You just don’t want to get bored with yourself.”
Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly has spoken about preparing to return as Beth Dutton.
The actress is set to reprise her role as Beth in the second half of Yellowstone’s fifth and final season, with the new episodes slated to arrive in November 2024.
In conversation with TVLine, Reilly was promoting her new coming-of-age indie Little Wing when she was asked if she accepted the new role to show audiences a different side of her talents.
Reilly explained: “I don’t really think like that, because look, there may be some people who’ve only ever seen me in Yellowstone, but I’ve been working as an actress for 30 years now.
“You just don’t want to get bored with yourself. You want to keep it fresh and work with different collaborators and actors and crew… I’d just done two films. A Haunting in Venice with Kenneth Branagh and Here, which is coming out this fall, with Tom Hanks and directed by Robert Zemeckis, and I was thinking, ‘I want to fit in as many different characters as I can before I go back onto Yellowstone.’
“[Doing so is a way of] keeping it alive for myself so that then, when I go back to Yellowstone, I can kind of strap Beth back on, and it feels reinvigorated because I stepped away,” admitted the star.
This comes after Reilly predicted a “beautiful and epic” second half of Yellowstone’s fifth and final season.
“[I don’t] have any insight into what’s going to happen,” was her caveat. “We’re all sort of beholden to the vision of the storyteller and we serve the story. Who knows what’s going to happen? I find that exciting as an actor.”
