For years, Stuart Bloom quietly existed on the sidelines of The Big Bang Theory. Now, HBO Max is turning the fan-favorite character into the unlikely hero of its newest spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, premiering July 2026.
The comedy follows Stuart after a disastrous accident involving technology built by Sheldon and Leonard tears open the multiverse. Suddenly responsible for fixing reality, Stuart must rely on Denise, Bert, and Barry Kripke as they travel through alternate worlds filled with scientific disasters and strange new possibilities.
Kevin Sussman leads the cast alongside Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie. Behind the scenes, original franchise creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady are teaming up with sci-fi screenwriter Zak Penn, signaling a bigger and more cinematic tone for the series.
The spin-off also marks a major tonal shift for the franchise, combining sitcom humor with multiverse storytelling. With Danny Elfman composing the opening theme, HBO Max appears ready to give Stuart’s long-overlooked story a surprisingly ambitious spotlight.
