Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced their split earlier this year, but fans of The Golden Bachelor saw it coming.
Golden Bachelor fans didn’t hold back in their criticism of Gerry, accusing him of being a “gold digger” as he introduced Theresa to his family members, describing her as a “professional businesswoman”.
It was speculated that his interest in Theresa was primarily based on her fortune.
The season finale of Golden Bachelor, which had everyone on edge, showed the crucial moment where 72-year-old bachelor decided who he would commit his future with, Theresa or Leslie Fhima.
However, even ahead of the final decision being revealed, Gerry received a slew of criticism on social media with many alleging that he was only interested in Theresa due to her sky-high net worth.
Recent revelations indicating that the 70-year-old contestant is valued at as much as $1 million only added fuel to these accusations.
Using X (the current avatar for Twitter), Golden Bachelor viewers weren’t shy about sharing their thoughts: one expressed their suspicions stating: “Notice how the first thing he said about Theresa was money related.”
Another seemed convinced of Gerry’s motivations, asserting: “The way Gerry looked while describing Theresa as a ‘professional businesswoman’ pretty much confirms the fact the her bringing up her career made him 10x more attracted to her imo.”
In the gripping season finale, Theresa and Leslie finally met Gerry’s family, including his daughters from his marriage to his late wife Toni.
Gerry’s daughter expressed her feelings in a confessional, saying: “To have dad say he’s in love with Theresa I guess it’s perfectly fine but I think they big question I have for today is if he was to get down on one knee and propose to her what would she say?”
Viewers felt the meeting between Theresa and Gerry’s family was quite “awkward” and “forced”.
However, Gerry’s daughter later admitted feeling relieved, stating: “She [Theresa] was very much in love with him and he’s very much in love with her.”
The episode culminated with a touching moment between Theresa and Gerry as they contemplated their future together.
Theresa made a heartfelt admission, telling Gerry: “It would be extremely difficult for me. As hard as it would be for me, I wouldn’t want you to pick with me if you weren’t 1000% wanting me.”
To which Gerry assured her: “I won’t propose and give you a rose if I’m not 1000% sure.”
Now, we know they did in fact tie the knot, however, their seperation was dated just months later in April.
