“Somebody Made A Bad Choice”: Annie Potts Reveals Meemaw’s Unexplained Trait In Young Sheldon Was Due To A Real-Life Accident

One particular trait of Meemaw in Young Sheldon is due to a real-life accident, Annie Potts reveals. The Big Bang Theory prequel focused on Sheldon and his nuclear family’s life in Texas. As an extension of the clan, however, Mary’s mother, Connie Tucker, also became an integral player in the spinoff. Besides the role she played as part of the Coopers, Meemaw also got her own storylines, and sometimes, they were even more compelling than the main plots in the series. By the time Young Sheldon ended, she was a firm fan favorite, but still, some things about her went unexplained.

In a new Instagram post, Potts explained that the reason Meemaw had a limp in Young Sheldon was because of an accident she suffered years ago. The actor shared how she was in a car accident after she was hit by drunk drivers. She revealed that she’s had several knee surgeries in the past from that incident, saying:

“I was just thinking that I might ask people to be thinking about me because I have to go to the hospital tomorrow and have surgery to replace one of my knees. It’s already been replaced once. It’s something like my 25th or 26th surgery… I’ve kind of lost count. 50 years ago, some drunk teenagers were drag racing down the wrong side of the road and hit me, and I broke every bone below my waist but one. I’ve been trying to put myself back together for 50 years… if you ever notice that Meemaw limps, it’s because I limp – because somebody made a bad choice. When you’re out there this summer partying, please don’t drink and drive… it might hurt somebody.”

What Happens To Meemaw After Young Sheldon?

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Will Bring Back Meemaw.

Like the rest of the Cooper family, Meemaw also appeared in The Big Bang Theory. Back then, she was played by June Squibb. Despite his close relationship with Sheldon, she was only in the nerd-centric sitcom once. She was mentioned several times, however, which previously established her close dynamic with her “moonpie” before Potts even debuted the role in Young Sheldon. Unfortunately, not much was revealed about Meemaw’s life in her twilight years when she visited her grandson in Pasadena because her cameo was more focused on establishing her rapport with Amy.

Thankfully, however, CBS is planning to reveal what happens to Meemaw in the immediate aftermath of George’s death and funeral in Young Sheldon .

Thankfully, however, CBS is planning to reveal what happens to Meemaw in the immediate aftermath of George’s death and funeral in Young Sheldon. The prequel will essentially continue in the Coopers’ life in Texas after Sheldon moved to California via Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s new show will pick up a couple of months after its parent series’ finale. Potts is already set to return as Meemaw in the pilot, alongside Zoe Potts’ Mary. It’s unclear, however, if there are plans to bring her back beyond that.

After Potts’ revelation, seeing Meemaw again in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will draw attention to her character’s limp. The matter was barely discussed when Young Sheldon was still on. Moving forward, however, it may serve as a reminder of the actor’s experience and advocacy against drunk driving.
